Took a little time, but I absolutely love the Gnome workflow. I too mostly work with slightly overlapping windows with occasional snapping. With some great default keyboard shortcuts gnome makes this workflow sing. I have a few extensions too but they are getting fewer over time. Caffeine, AppIndicator, and sound chooser is all I really need. ddterm is a nice to have. On 42 now (garuda) and looking forward to eliminating the sound chooser going to 43.

Also looking forward to trying Blur my Shell and OpenWeather. Thanks for the tips.

I discovered nobara a year and a half ago and since then it has been the best thing that has happened to me. it's very easy to customize anything you need plus it comes with a lot of useful features such as wine.

I've tried all the desktops out there and nothing fits my workflow as well as GNOME does. Love it.

I am KDE man myself and I like using one desktop environment for all my systems. I also have a steamdeck (obviously with plasma installed) but the new Nobara official update is really swaying me. Lots of nice quality of life improvements

Agree! Gnome become better and nice to use now. Because of that, now i leave XFCE and I3WM, and use only Gnome.

Such a good other me, love that I'm not the only one that empathizes the "G" in Gnome.

Of all the distro hopping I've done, my preferred DE looks just about exactly like this one. I've tended to like the Mac like arrangement with dock and top panel (and I'm previously a lifelong windows user that has virtually never used mac OS) and of all the environments in linux gnome does this arrangement best, IMO.

I'm a kde man myself, but if gnome was the only option I'd still probably use Linux

Love how you cover great stuff like this. I'm new to Linux, so I watch every single video you do on stuff like this. It helps me see what is possible with my new setup.

i'm a minimalist in my character and gnome suits me well. i did extend it a bit but mainly it works nearly like out of the box.

I recently started using linux, I tried kde, but after trying gnome, I was left in awe of the quality of ui and easy setup with plugins, with them without problems made rounded edges on the windows, in kde I got tired of trying to make them qualitatively

I use a convertible for university and recently switched from i3 to GNOME. It is amazing how well their UI is thought out and how I dont't need the keyboard at all when using the device in tablet mode.

Linux excels at providing options and customization, so everyone can do what they need to get the system set up how they like. I never really got the "outdated" tag. If I go back and look at Windows 98, yeah, that looks visually old, but not so much in concept. Looking at the various Windows-like desktops for Linux, they don't look old or bad to me. So I just don't get that. But I've never been a fan of too much window dressing, effects, or various bells and whistles. I like my OS to just exist and not get in my way, and the Windows-style taskbar is my favorite way of doing things. I do some minor customization, of course, but it doesn't take much to get XFCE set up the way I like it. Add a fun desktop background, and I think it looks quite nice. I just don't get on well with different interfaces. I hate the Apple-style dock. I don't like variations on the taskbar or grouping window managers. I guess I'm a creature of habit, but I guess that really resonated with me in that I don't need to change like others. When I moved to Linux, I started with Opensuse KDE and Mint Cinnamon, both of which I liked very much, but came to prefer Cinnamon. I've since moved to XFCE, and have played around with MATE(I might dive deeper with it) and KDE(it's good, but a bit too different in a number of ways). I can easily jump between Cinnamon, XFCE, and MATE, but everything else feels too different. Again, while those are old fashioned or classic, I just don't get the "outdated" thing, either in function or aesthetics. I find so-called modernization usually ends up being annoying at best and frustrating at worst. But that's just how my mind works, and I want to emphasize that options and customization are a huge reason why Linux is so great, so no hate from me for doing things in a totally different way. If my desktop is outdated, I just can't see it, and I'm happy living in the past.

A tiling Window manager makes more sense if you have a 21:9 monitor, especially if you have one with 3840x1600 like I happen to have.

Basically run the same, I do add the adw3-gtk theme so legacy apps are more consistent

I am not much of a Gnome user. However, your video could help me customize it if I ever decide to give it a try.

I took a look at the laptop I bought 6 years ago and continue to use xfce

I do some similar, but I really hate a dock showing all the time, so I don't do that. I have been trying it out since I went to Fedora 36, but I am still heavily thinking of going back to KDE.
