BMW CE 02 (2024) REVIEW | Electric commuter

BMW calls the CE 02 an ‘eParkourer’ and leans heavily on skateboarding imagary but there’s no denying that the decision to create a concept-bike-for-the-showroom is a more appealing approach than just another cookie-cutter electric scooter. When it comes to appealing to young, urban riders it’s an approach that might just pay off – provided there are enough customers out there who are prepared to stump up the steep £7,450 cost of entry.

Adam 'Chad' Child heads to Lisbon on our behalf to spend the day on the new #bmw #scooter for our #review

Can you remove the battery for charging ? If not it fails as a city commuter, most people in cities live in flats ?

Having just purchased one, I can wholeheartedly say it’s awesome. Seriously rapid off the lights, I mean there really ain’t much gonna keep up with off the start. 50 miles per charge is good for most that only expect to use it to commute. Build quality is typical BMW, good alarm system, and steering lock. Takes me back to the 2 stroke Gilera runner 180cc days.

Being old and wealthy I'm going to buy one mainly as a talking point. Might use it occasionally on a sunny day.

Something of a security pain in the backside with enclosed wheels. Not easy to use a chain.

In London you can only travel at 20 mph, get an electric pedal bike a decent one for £2500 with removal battery for charging in your apartment and you still save the £150/month Z1 to Z2 Oyster card. It’s a toy for the well off!

There is definetly the power for electric sports bikes. It's just range / charging network that is the issue.

Energica make some wicked bikes.

£8500 for a range like that?
I half expected to see Krusty the clown riding it

So let's say you do decide to use it around London, how do you secure it?
With solid lookingwheels and a very non conventional frame there appears to be very few/if any spots to chain it down. So it's getting nicked then... #london

if bmw gives you the bike and tells you to say it's not a scooter, it's definitely a scooter

It might be £120 per month on PCP but you probably have to pay an initial £3, 000 - £4, 000 deposit first

Didn't I already see this guy review this bike on Bikeworld? If its anything like the comments section there, everyone thinks it's terrible (except the reviewer)

Chad I feel like you get it. An electric motorcycle I don’t want for all the reasons you said but this I would love to have in the garage. It looks great, feels quality, has heaps of character and would be so fun bombing round a city or neighbourhood again for all the reasons you mentioned. I think it will sell really well too.

Also to all those grisly comments, it’s not a motorcycle so don’t compare it to one. It’s not a Honda cb500x but around the city it looks 1000x better and would be more fun. Why so miserable and cynical? You don’t have to buy it.

Actually can see it fitting in perfectly as you described.
But.
It's so expensive. If I'm spending 8.5g on a commuter I'm probably spending 6.6g on a cb500x and riding to Lisbon with the spare 2g. Lisbon is a great city.
Like it a lot but too much money.
And as some others have said, how do I lock it up?
But yes, that is a cool bike.
Ride safe 👍

When they don't sell and the deals come out I will pick one up for sure 😍😍

You might be glad to have an oyster cars when this gets stolen. How are you supposed to chain it up with solid wheels?

Agree with other comments about wheels and removable battery, but also, as a commute/errends bike it needs luggage carrying capacity, a rack or something. Much as I like the idea of an electric town bike I'd still ride a Honda Cub in preference to this.

BMW complaining that the market is not ready, no, they are not making practical bikes for the market, it is simple really, the brand which has realistic range, real world top speed and a good price point for your average rider wins. Truth be told bikers rarely ever buy new anyway, those who do are usually late boomers or people with disposable income later in life, for the rest of us we choose bikes based on value for money.

The only thing that is really off putting is the price this bike is around 8500€ for the base MC version that has 6kw here in Sweden as we are given 3 versions a 3.7kW(Moped) 6kW(Light MC) and 11kW(MC) which means you almost get two KTM or two Kawasaki or two Suzuki or two Aprilia 125cc bike of the same price as the 11kW fully equipped version are😅

The interesting part is that it is loved by all the influencers and mostly hated in the comments.
Maybe BMW should have spent less money for this kind of advertisement and more for the product management?

You can’t even take the charger with you unless you want to carry around a massive box!
And the 12V battery has to be charged separately?
