I have high hopes for this 2 series. Hopefully it wins back some of the doubters who have been griping ever since the E46 went out of production. That being said, this particular M235i looks more like a spiritual successor to the E36 M3 lightweight.

I went around Thruxton in this yesterday with Andy Priaulx driving. Absolutely incredible!

On paper and by definition, DCT's are manual transmissions. Just because you're not controlling the actual clutch doesn't mean its an automatic. DCT's make conventional manuals obsolete. They shift faster and more accurately than most professional race car drivers. They are also the main choice in many race cars today.

BMW this is a question for your engineers. As far as my understanding of the basic concepts of racing, wider track = fatter tires = more grip = cornering entrance, grip, and exit, which is why you guys installed the flared wheel arches. What I don't get is why the wheels are still so small, they're not wide enough to fit the wheel arches of the car. Anyone wanna explain?

Sorry BMW, I love your cars and the new 2-series is going to be awesome, but an automatic in a race car? Seriously? That is a cop out of the highest degree if I've ever seen one. Stop pandering to boy racers with deep pockets who don't know the first thing about how a car really operates. I don't care how good the ZF 8-speed automatic is, it doesn't make it suitable for racing. And just because a car has a flappy paddle gearbox (whether automatic or DCT) doesn't make it a proper race car. You were right on the mark with the now discontinued 1M. Perhaps you should look to that car and the E30 M3 for inspiration. There was a time when all M cars were manual only. Those were special cars that required at least some skill to drive properly. Now, anyone can own and drive an M car, and now a race car too?
