A quick way to change the color of a furniture flip without stripping is to tone the wood.

Here are the steps:
1. Clean the piece with a degreaser
2. Scuff sand with a high grit sandpaper.
3. Clean with a 50/50 mixture of denatured alcohol and water.
4. If you have detailed areas, apply liquid sandpaper to make sure those areas are etched up.
5. Apply the gel stain. Simply wipe on and then wipe off the excess.
6. Allow to dry before applying more coats.
7. Two coats are recommended, but you can add more with additional drying time.
8. I did three light coats
9. Wait for it to completely dry and then seal.
10. I used an oil polyurethane by Minwax in ultra warm flat.

I have been wondering if this was possible, because I loovee natural wood grain but at thr same time I want to modernize old pieces just a bit. Perfect!!!!
I suppose it only works when you go darker than the original tone? I don't have much experience on this.
