The not easy but effective way of cleaning behind the heating element is to remove the fan (usually attached only with a nut). Remove the screws holding the heating element. The heating element will then be loose enough to slightly lift of. You need fairly thin hands to reach behind the heating element to clean the surface. I use a 0000 or 000 steel wool + alcohol (50% will do) to remove cooked on grease/oil. Then wipe with alcohol-damp paper towels.

Do the same for the fan that you’ve already removed. Soaking the fan in Oxiclean also works - scrub after soaking.

You have to remove cooked on grease to get rid of the smell. If you cook fish repeatedly, like I do, there will always be that fish smell until all of that cooked on grease has been removed.

I've come to the conclusion that the only way to clean the philips Air Fryers is by tearing them apart completely. Not that I'll do it but it's impossible to get to the real dirty areas in the top, even following tutorials that use baking soda, leaving 20 mins at max heat with water inside etc. Sad.

honestly the air fryer never gets cleaned from the inside. After years of use I just had to get rid of it as it kept releasing a burnt food smell every time I used it despite it being cleaned after every use. there’s some sort of build up inside the machine that I can’t seem to be able to get rid of

Had air fryer, very easy to cook, but....it takes 20 min to cook and 20 min to clean it and still dirty inside all those holes it has, got rid of it.

How do you get the "varnish" off the fan blades? Will spraying those work too? Kind of difficult with the heating coil in the way.

at top of my airfryer were fan and grill element is is didgusting dirtty and i cannot get near it to clean it

Mine started making "white smoke' & it's only a month old . Chicken & bacon splatter a lot, just turn the fan on to my range top … It doesn't last very long after it burn's off . Also put both fryer & outside pan in my sink . Fill it with hot soapy water, let it sit for awhile, that part is easy to clean …. This video helped I'll put some water in the pan, turn it on may melt off some of that grease inside !!!

when i was used this type of Cleaning, my device have a new problems of Control (temp & Timer).
some times was going to stop working, or usually go to get unstable for timer & temperature degree
to up or down without any of our device control, so i think its not a really correct way of cleaning ...

Fill the container of the Airfryer with a little water before each cooking, then the Airfryer cleans permanently itself. No crusting of the cover behind the heating elements more ...
General cleaning:
Fill the container with 70% water, add baking soda 200 degrees, cool for 20 minutes and wipe with a micro fiber cloth ... Clean the spaces with wooden sticks and microfibre cloth. no abrasives or metallic tools use the heating elements are ceramic coated .

Don’t buy a Philips air fryer. A known issue with the electronic timer or computer. Worst after warranty Repairs will cost about $140.

Total B.S. dirt and grease stay. Worst appliance I ever bought. At least show hot to remove the heater to clean it properly!

Mesh baskets do not get clean. Everything else is fine

AFter spraying, when turning it back to normal position...All the dirty greasy water spilled out 😥

Without even watching this or any other such video, I can say with confidence you won't be able to clean a really cruddy air fryer.
