CANDY APPLE CLEANING METHOD

Small Batch (less than 12 candy apples):
1. In a pot, mix 1/4 cup of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of salt.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil.
3. Using a utensil, carefully cover and rotate each apple in the cleaning mixture for 6 seconds.
4. Take the apple out and place it on a dry paper towel.
5. Use the paper towel to gently wipe off any wax, green dye, or dirt from the apple.
6. Repeat this process for each apple for the next 24 to 48 hours.
7. Let the apples sit for 24 to 48 hours to allow any remaining residue/wax to come to the surface and continue with Step 6.
8. Once the apples are completely dry and residue/wax-free, they are ready to be dipped in the candy apple mixture.

Big Batch (12 candy apples or more):
1. In a large pot, mix 1 cup of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of salt.

I can’t even get one batched done without my mixture getting hard to fast, let alone changing colors. Lol
I’m really not sure what it is now with my candy apples, because I’ve been making them for years. Not sure if my food coloring is old or if it’s my thermometer
