Making the wildlife pond - part two!

Following on from part one (link at end of video) it's now time to start having fun planting in and around the pond. I want to create a habitat that will provide shelter and nourishment for many garden friends and, to do that, I'm adding upturned pots, places to rest and planting both in and out of the water. Of course there had to be a solar fountain, if only to discourage the midges, and who wouldn't want a 'nature log'? There are still things to add but I'm looking forward to seeing it develop and 'grow' over the following months. If you'd like to follow along please consider giving a thumbs up and maybe even press the subscribe button.
Thank you so much again to my Patrons who made this project possible!

I love it. I've been working on my refurbishing my pond. I've had it for about 20 years, and every now and then, I have a re-think, and change things a bit. It's all good fun. I often put logs, and stumps around the garden. I use them to put pots on, and even use them as a place to sit, now and then.

I love what you’ve done here Jane. It looks amazing which is really something given its brand new. Can’t wait to see it mature and really settle in for the wildlife around you ❤❤

Lovely setup. Has Mike tried Avon spray oil? My husband uses it and it is very effective at deterring midges. Now he is a man’s man so the fact that he uses a ‘girlie’ product says something!! All his friends scorn him when he out in the woods working but gradually they come creeping round and asking to borrow some!

It's really coming together isn't it! Once those plants get going it will be wonderful! My pond edges are coming back to life now, it will always be my favourite spot!

Hi Jane, ponds looking great should become a good bird bath. (The blackbirds here will have two baths a day during summer)
If your allotment has bats then they will come and visit if you have midges.

Hi Jane, your pond is lovely, love the log too and it looks lovely sitting upright with the bowl sitting on top with water. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Jane loving the pond. I use a solar air-stone pump less water loss oxygenates the water especially in summer months when could be depleted even with oxygenating plants.

Coming together nicely.
I have one of those solar fountains in one of my bird baths. They work great, but I have to use the tip with the least force or the spray goes everywhere.
I don't have any water features in my gardens. Maybe next year.

That is going to bring lots of enjoyment:-)I have a little pond, not much bigger.
I am able to have a pump in it that moves the water, but the mosquitoes still lay in it.I had to buy, what they call mosquito dunks.
But I love it and have lots of birds visit.
It's fun to plant and decorate the area:-)

I can't wait to see footage from your trail cam! I put one in my backyard in the middle of suburbia usa and was amazed to see the wildlife that visits during the night (raccoons, skunks, foxes). I would love a pond but I think it would be too much work keeping the algae out of it with all our sun and heat. Do you have trouble with algae there?

It really does look lovely Jane and will look even better over time. I’m so pleased you filmed the making of it - you have certainly given me a few ideas! Thank you 😀

I would chhose a low nozzle for the solar pump because on a windy day You risk emptying your pond of water.
Been there done that 😅

Pond and surrounding area will look lovely once it all gets going and am sure you will get lots of critters that make it their home. Every wild patch needs a wildlife log so good addition 😄
