I've been using Raspberry Pi devices for a while now on individual projects on the channel and I thought it would be fitting to step back a level and help people get started with Raspberry Pi on their own and begin experimenting with this awesome device.

Things you need to setup and use Raspberry Pi:

That "ugh I did it again" mumbled under your breathe at about 50 minutes is the best. I do that all the time when setting up my flying wing with a new transmitter.

I came across your channel a few weeks ago and I started watch your videos from 2017. Thanks for making the videos. You got me intrested in ham radio again. I was wanting to get my license back in middle school but I couldn't find people that were into them. Keep it up.

I haven't read through the comments, so forgive me if this was osted already. One of the first things you want to do in raspi-config is expand the filesystem. Otherwise, you're wasting a good chunk of your Micro SD Card.

A Few Pointers.. If doing this from Windows.. No need for keyboard / display or PUTTY to set it up
When you create the image on your SD Card click on it in Explorer/File Manager so you can see the files on the SD Card
right click on the window... New > Text file called "ssh" now eject the SD Card and put it in your PI and power it on.

Now click your WIN/Windows Key... type CMD, when it appears, right click "Run As Administrator" O.K security pop-up.
You can now > ssh pi@<ip.address> (No Need for PUTTY) password is raspberry.
You can then > raspi-config
Enable VNC, Set Display Resolution >> Finish / Save and then Exit

You are now good to go with VNC and no need for keyboard or display on the PI

apt does not replace apt-get. apt is "friendlier" but apt-get can do more stuff. Now, most people don't need that more stuff, so if apt works for you, go for it, but if you are having trouble getting something done with apt, apt-get will probably take care of your problem.

Mostly dead air on local analog repeaters. I can pick up DMR from a repeater 11 miles away but until I get my DMR number won't be able to know for sure I can hit it with a 28 inch antenna on my TYT MD 380 UV 380 GPS. Yes I am using a bogus DMR id for testing programming but would never key up on analog or digital until my call sign post and I can do it legally.

Sean Reynolds we should get those UNIX pages etched in glass and boxed up under Ice.

I use my Pi3 and fldigi on my 857d both at home and field day. The only problem is running the monitor. That 7" screen is just too small for my old eyes! One 12v battery runs the pi (buck? takes 12v and makes it 5v @ 2.5amps) and the radio and I WILL figure out how to make it run a small monitor.
