The Guilty Gear Strive Season 4 Patch is CRAZY!

So the big Guilty Gear Strive Season 4 Patch isn't live just yet, but we do now have the patch notes for it, and they are making some absolutely crazy changes. Here we are many years deep into the game, and some characters like Potemkin and Ramlethal are getting effectively fundamental reworks to who they are and what they do. Is that good or bad? Whose to say, but it certainly is interesting.

So hey, patch notes are in the video description so check them out! I will need to get my hands on nu-pot before I feel actually good or bad about the changes but man... its certainly different. First initial gut feeling was they killed him, but theres some other stuff so we will see. Still though, characters like Potemkin and Ramlethal, changing such core aspects of the characters that are effectively fundamental to how they work, and doing so so late in the game with Strive being years old now? Its some crazy stuff

This really feels like someone said Kara's were difficult and a requirement for Pot, and instead of making the kara timing easier and balancing around that, they just... didn't wanna deal with that and removed it.

**Sees thumbnail** Hell yeah! Did they buff Pot even more?
**Watches video** All around me are familiar busters,
Worn out dusters, worn out busters

Obviously it's too early too tell, but the Potemkin and Ram changes in particular feel like people who main them are gonna be almost learning an entirely new character with how drastically Arcsys seems to be changing their core gameplay

Ive never went from being hype for an update to dreading it so fast until seeing the notes today

This feels like getting your legs chopped off, it took me ages to learn kara combos but i learned them. This is so weird, the character was obviously designed around kara canceling and 3 years later they just change their minds?

I've just only recently managed to learn how to do kara-Garuda semi-regularly on my gamepad
and now Arcsys does this GALAXY brain move🤨

Ram got her kneecaps kicked out. No early pick up for the swords is so rough.

On the other hand, Baiken getting to parry in your blockstring makes me so happy. Good ol' Xrd days of enemies ending their combos early or throwing gaps in there because they are scared to get hit by the parry are back!

So plan is currently for the Strive patch ill mess around with Dizzy for a bit and do a "first impressions" vid just on my thoughts and what I can figure out for her on day 1, and then after that I will attempt do to a a patch vid. Its a very big patch, so if its gonna be same day expect it to be live much later in the day, potentially day after we will see.

I really wish we could get snapshots at the end of each season, sort of how fighting games used to work with Arcade Edition, Ultra, Revelator, Rev 2, etc. I think I like what I see in these patch notes, but I might not. I didn't especially like season 2 of Strive, and I would have loved to still have access to season 1 back then. Drastic changes like this can easily mean that they're taking away something a lot of people like.

Didin‘t play Potemkin because he was so hard but I can feel for the people who learned all that stuff

Potemkin was gutted... I thought the Armored Buster was a buff, it was a consolation prize

I am by no means a good Pot, couldnt even kara consistently, but knowing the possibility was there got me excited
now it just feels dry

As an Axl player, I don't know how to feel about the change to Rensen's input. It's technically a buff as it allows him to do many things he couldn't and makes some of the trickier things more manageable, and I am happy for that. But it's like making Sonic Boom a fireball motion after decades of being a charge motion. It's may not be as drastic as Pot or Ram, but it does feel kind of...earth-shaking. Changing Axl Bomber from DP to fireball is one thing, but charge to motion is indeed interesting...

Someone said it best “Removing Kara from Pot is like removing wavedash from Mishimas”

also changing inputs (both motions and buttons) ruins it for me. I just grasped the concept and was able to do it sometimes in training mode so now I guess that time is useless. Might change characters tbh.

As someone who played pad, I never had an issue pulling a Kara-cancel off, and I was introduced to the concept in Strive. Its a shame, because it was fun to do as someone who casually played Pot. Having the option to Kara or not made casual matches fun as hell with the robbery you could do

This makes him feel more boring, regardless if its a buff or not

The thing that upsets me the most about the Pot changes is that they're doing this so late into the game's lifespan. Like, if it was this way from the start, or if it was part of their vision for a _new_ Guilty Gear game, I'd have no problem with the design philosophy. But the character I've been playing the last 3 years is more or less being removed from the game tomorrow and that makes me really sad.

Im so sad about the kara cancel removal. If you asked me to name the two coolest things to execute on Potemkin it would be kbmf combos and hfb into super and now both are gone. It's not about it being a buff or nerf, kara canceling was genuinely just fun and very satisfying.
