In a sharp response to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she highlighted incidents of rape across India, the Centre has now flagged that Bengal has been allocated 123 fast-track courts to hear cases of rapes and child abuse, but many of them are not functional yet.

Tremendous negligence from Kolkata Police is also observed while dealing this murder and rape case against that ill fated young female doctor.

It is extremely surprising that while the Supreme Court takes suo Motu cognizance, the Home Ministry has been silent since 2019 post poll violence in West Bengal, leading to a complete breakdown of law and order in the State and the emboldened and corrupt section engaging in crimes. The public today looks on with abhorrence at the keepers of law and order in the state and with disgust at the lack of safety of 50% and more of the population. It is time for the Central Government to act and restore the rule of law and be done with the use of West Bengal's taxpayers bearing the bills of Supreme Court representation comprising of an army of 21 lawyers against a pitiful girl who had struggled and succeeded in becoming a doctor. What a terrible shame while the Prime Minister is abroad.
