He reaches us the same ways religious cons reached the masses for most of human history because on some level most of us know we are not in control the way we pretend we are, only he doesn't fill the gap with Satan and God to represent your longing for purpose and to do good and your impulses and capacity for evil and greed and the lifelong conflict those two separate and conflicting thought processes. We can be monsters if needed but shouldn't be when it's not for pure survival. We have no worries compared to history so now feelings and oppression are held as larger issues than famine and literal starvation. Do what keeps your conscience clean and alive. Sometimes it takes war to assure peace.
