In today's livestream we talk about and review Sabato De Sarno's Gucci Cruise 2025 fashion runway show.

The House of Gucci debuted its Cruise 2025 collection in the beautiful location of London, with Gucci's Creative Director Sabato De Sarno leading the way and honoring the origin of Gucci's roots and impeccable style. "I owe a lot to this city, it has welcomed and listened to me. The same is true for Gucci, whose founder was inspired by his experience there. The House’s return is driven by a desire to be immersed in its distinctive essence, its creative driving force with its limitless capability to put together contrasts, make them converse, and find ways to coexist. Today we are here to celebrate that spirit," shared De Sarno.

Sabato's tenure at Gucci has been nothing short of transformative, injecting the brand's signature elements such as the iconic Horsebit emblem inspired by the equestrian world when it was first introduced in the late 1940s. Sarno uses these motifs and adds a fresh dose of modernism. Contrasting Gucci's past creative director Alessandro Michele's whimsical style, De Sarno brings forth a new era defined by sensuality and sophistication. The unveiling of the Cruise 2025 collection was placed against the stunning backdrop of the Tate Modern in London.

Luxury cruise collections typically exude an air of sophistication and leisure, often drawing inspiration from the glamor of travel and exotic destinations with resort-inspired designs with lightweight, high-quality materials, and a sense of timeless elegance.

Taking place at the Tate Modern, one of London's main symbols of design and creativity, Gucci's Cruise 2025 collection saw a choreography of unexpected juxtapositions and sentimental modernity inspired by symbolic antithesis. "Rigor and extravagance, strength in delicacy, Englishness with an Italian accent. Echoes of inspirations, ideas of our experiences of a city and its culture expressed through the clothes we wear," read the brand's statement. Some early favorites from the show included the daisy jeans, bow blouses, and sequin beaded fringes that glistered through the imposing venue, highlighting that sense of dichotomy that guides the collection. Finding the perfect spot where evening meets with everyday, Gucci's latest collection is all about embracing duality until finding perfect harmony. "Embroideries, tailoring, leatherworking, the hand. Here, craft and fashion can unify, crossing culture–they help create a new form of universal language, a shared human vocabulary."

From a brand designer's point of view: I think Alessandro Michele was a master of luxury branding and creative direction. He created a Gucci universe where there were no competitors. It had a lot of storytelling (and humor - which many luxury and premium brands are lacking). It had an element of fantasy. Sabato, on the other hand, seems like a very commercial designer who has ideas of things but not necessarily a vision of a universe. Hence, his collections are easy to compare to other designers (I'm getting Chloe, Alessandro Michele from this one). I wish that the next collection considers more about the vision and new essence of Gucci as a whole; What is it about beyond clothing and accessories.

You completely nailed your comments!!! Everything you’re saying is absolutely correct 👍 ❤

Students aren’t bogged down by budgets or demands of the stakeholders to sell products. I think that’s why student work is more inspiring. There’s also more passion and hunger to get that degree than keeping people happy. ☠️

Dear me… nothing very new whatsoever! Boxy leather jackets done before by miumiu…The dégradé pleated dresses were the only thing that was remotely romantic. The show notes failed to represent the collection.

First look comes out and immediately, I am reminded of what I did last night... scrolling through Zara's "new in". This is quite literally what was in Zara a few weeks ago. I cannot believe that this is a designer show? When I was in high school, fashion/trends would trickle down from the designer shows, to the retail stores. This show has zero newness What was new or inspiring there??

We all know how gucci is doing financially right now .... this feels like the CFO told Sabato to make it 'more like alessandro' ....

new Gucci looks like a diffusion line of itself, I hope de sarno finds his footing because I love the vision of Gucci being about the contrast between locked down structure and dramatic romanticism but it still hasn't come across yet

@fashion Roadman how lovely of you by saying you don't want to be mean on designers. That is very cool.

“Is this what fashion has come to…”. Yes sir, It has and it’s incredibly disappointing. Across the board Kering has stunted creativity with all of their brands. Balenciaga, Gucci, McQueen, SL, ect. Are all making clothes designed to appeal to sell to the average consumer, not the people who truly understand and appreciate the art of fashion. It’s funny, because with that theory they should be doing better financially…
