Having been a flight instructor for 47 years, that Instructor should have never signed him off for solo until he worked out the issues with airspeed control.

My flight instructor has always said I'd never fly solo until he's sure I'm able to do so safely. He's been saying that for almost 17 years. I'm starting to think I'm being scammed.

It's painfully clear he was not ready for solo.

The fact the student even survived is a miracle but they go serious injuries
KNCcommenter
Why let the student fly if it's obvious that he is unfit and should not have been cleared to fly.

With this issues KNOWN he shouldn't be allowed to fly... If youre speeding in the driving lesson you also wont get youre drivers license! Just give him some more flight hours till he ront have issues anymore... :(

At 8 hours my flight school wanted me to do a solo. I flat out refused. I only had 2 good unassisted landings before this

This makes me really sad. I remember my solo. No one ever wants this. I hope he has recovered.

Thanks for not looping the 2 second crash over and over like other channels

If he was deficient, why was he cleared to solo?

I remember watching my youngest son's pattern work on his first solo when he was 15 yo in a Cessna 152. I was paranoid he would get too slow turning base and final and stall. Today he is a check airman and Captain for a major airline.

This is one of the moments where you either rise from the ashes and be the best pilot ever. Or, you accept that maybe this shit aint for you lmao.

In 1972 I soloed after 8 hours. All my previous landings I greased in. After I made a crappy landing, bounced it and recovered, CFI said to taxi to the ramp. He stepped out of the plane. Do 3 takeoffs and landings to full stop. Stay in the pattern. Later he told me I could have soloed earlier but he had to see me recover a poor landing before my first solo.

When I got my PPL I flew as much as possible without regard to the minimums required.
I did my solo at around 40 hrs and then PPL at 110.
At 110 hours with my new PPL, I rented a C182 and flew from Maryland to Chicago with my Dad as passenger. We stopped at Charlestown, W VA and Meigs Field, Chicago.

On my very first solo flight, in a C150, a twin Beech cut me off on final. Its wing-tip vortices flipped me upside down.. I somehow had the presence of mind to increase throttle and right the airplane, keeping me from augering into the Arizona desert, leveling off 40 feet agl. By the time I'd gone back around the pattern, my face and knuckles were no longer white. My instructor wrote, 'remember wing-tip vortices' in my logbook.

If he had deficiencies landing then maybe he should've gotten more instruction and not allowed to fly solo. 🤷♂️

I remember my first solo wasn’t planned, my instructor jumped out at a 1000 feet, turned out he’d been depressed, which was sad as I thought I’d been doing well.

I still remember my first solo. It was a beauty. I remember my instructor telling me that if I felt comfortable, to do a few touch and go's. From memory, I did 5 circuits. Landing is always a great feeling, if done correctly...

Imagine screwing your first flight up. Good luck for his future career if he's still flying. 🎉🎉
