Hey pixelated Apollo, idk if you’ll see this but I wanted to say I used to watch your videos 24/7 as a kid, you were a good part of my childhood and I dreamed about playing these games. Now I am an adult and could finally afford to get myself a pc to play these. It’s just awesome to see you’re still going strong

Thing I remember most about BFME2 campaign was Erebor was nuts playing as Mordor because the dwarves spammed attacks while you were trying to build up your base and then as the Dwarves, the enemy would just bum rush through all your troops through the two open gates you couldn’t close

In terms of the campaign I do prefer the first The Battle for Middle-Earth game. Good campaign is so much fun :D

Hey Apollo, great video! Heres some tips i like to use. As you discovered, the command limit will also limit your heroes, which then limits all other upgrades to your castle until it is either finished or canceled.


Pressing B will switch to the nearest builder, and that key should be defaulted.

Cntrl + a number will assign the currently selected troops to a squad. Then, press the coresponding number to select the squad. A good setup i like is 1 for infantry, 2 for archers, 3 for cav, and 4 for siege. I plave my heroes in their coresponding roles.

No matter the situation, always leave 1 or 2 troops at the base for defense.

This game, as im sure you are aware, used the rock paper scissors scheme, cav beats archers and non spear units, spears beat cav, and large units. Archers beat infantry, and infantry is a meat shield.

Use cav to destroy resource buildings that the enemy has placed. They are quick and in and out.

The gold after you destroy a map enemy (goblin cave, troll cave, etc.) Aslo provides the hero that collects it with a huge exp boost. That is why faramir leveled before Boromir.

I hope you play more of this as it is my childhood favorite. I also love your videos and will continue to support you. I hope you dont mind my tips.

The best time I've ever had on this game is playing Men of the West on Helm's Deep and only using heroes against mass waves of orcs. It's epic. Would recommend for your next video! Or a match on Old Brown Lands. One of the best maps.

Quick tip to make it easier to select your army: You can assign quick select option to units. Select the units you want to group and then press Ctrl+1. Once you have done that, you can quickly select that group by simply pressing 1. Select another group and assign them to number 2 by pressing Ctrl+2.

I always have my heroes under quick select 9 (and 8 if I want to separate them in 2 groups). I usually have the rest of my army under number 1. If it's really big battles, I may separate them in whatever way suits the campaign. Sometimes I have all infantry in one group, archers in another and cavalerie in yet another. In other scenario's I make battle groups of 2 infantry, combined with 2 archers.

Anyway, that can be very useful in keeping control over your army and respond very quickly to attacks. You can even group your builders (usually number 0 for me, so you can quickly select them and bring them to safety in case of an attack).

I'd like to see a mode or an upcoming game where in battle for middle earth each race has the ability to choose their fortress upgrade to like star fortress, square, circle etc etc... and each one is unique. Because in real life there were different types of fortresses built. That be cool.

I loved this game so much back in the day. Used to turtle hard, with insane defenses, wait for an enemy push, then immediately counter attack.
