I personally would just love for them to feel the path of upgrading that we had to feel just to get up to the point that we are now. It would truly make them appreciate it more

low end because they will learn to appreciate the pc and not be spoiled with a good pc and jus take it for granted over time they will remember how important the parts are and will be more grateful for upgrades

give them a mid range pc to build, and every good grade they get = they choose a component and upgrade it

If you already decided to build an High end PC than why you asked your followers to give you their opinion? 🧐 Also, buying really expensive stuff to a child is not a good idea in general. He might become spoiled and lazy thinking he can have everything he wants without working hard. I’m sure that you work a lot and everything you can afford is well deserved but the same concept must be applied for your son. (Also, starting with a mid range PC can make him understand more about upgrades, bottlenecks and more)

The commenter YOU UNDERLINED was saying start low and have them upgrade it consistently. That's a lot more of a learning experience.

Besides, high end PC parts (namely psus and cases) can simplify a lot of the work, so it isn't actually teaching entirely how the build process typically goes.

Additionally, learning LIMITATIONS is important as hell. If I didn't kill my PC with chrome tabs to find out why I should upgrade my ram, I wouldn't know why it was stuttering later when that ram also ran out, nor would I remember how to replace it.

Times have just changed. My first PC was a Pentium with 90 MHz and 8 MB of ram in it. I was so proud of that thing. It didnt even have a soundcard back in 1998 when i was six and i had tons of hours fun with that thing 🥰

Its also about appreciating good better best.

Aside from what everyone is telling you, which is pretty much correct, you can actually understand how BIG generational upgrades become.

I used an i3 2100 from 2012 to 2019 with 4 GB of ddr3. No upgrades whatsoever, it taught me how to manage resolution and graphic details on games.

From 2019 to 2022 i used a prebuilt that had a Ryzen 5 3400G, 8 GB DRR4 at 2666MHz it was PRETTY obvious that the dinosaur that i was using wasn't all there was in terms of budget PCs.

This year I've been upgrading that prebuilt because i got a job: HDD-> HDD+SSD, 8 GB 2666 -> 8x2 3200, Integrated graphics -> 6650 XT, 500 W Generic PSU (that almost exploded) -> 650 W 80+ Gold from Thermaltake. And I'm sure I wouldn't know how to appreciate all of this if I hadn't known what it's like to be on the LOW end and working my way up.

Going all out means they don't have any upgrade paths in the coming years which if going for a low end to mid range does give them the option to get upgrades for their bday etc

Nah, you get them to appreciate what they have, and maybe do some overclocking to get more from “free” and when the only solution is upgrades, you get to help them with those specifically.

Ye but they can study what upgrades to get and budgeting

budget, then they aren't aclaimed to the best thing ever

Yeah but once they work their way up from low end and eventually high end, they'll appreciate the high end more because they understand the value of jt

They can learn how to adjust settings, both within the game and on the PC itself, into order to get the maximum performance out of the parts that they already have.

They will learn not just how to build it but also how to reboot and redo windows, the cimos and others (l know i misspelled cimos prob but wtv) because lower end will be more susceptible crashes and blue screens of death, and they can appreciate how the computer works. And if they decide to only do sports and never really use thier pc except for youtube its not a waste

What’s the confusion? Starting with a lower end PC you can encourage them to seek out their own upgrades, maybe let them grab the wrong cpu for their mobo (I’ve done this before lol) or make a few mistakes along the way, yes theoretically spending more would allow for more complex components as mentioned, but there will be no learning about upgrading etc besides “Dad can I have the newest nvidia GPU?”

They’ll learn to appreciate them more if you don’t immediately spoil them with the newest nicest tech, earning things is always a positive way to teach children and will generally help their development.

Bro we like high end gaming pcs but if you start kids off with stuff that expensive they won't appreciate it humble beginnings are always better

give them like a high end mobo and cooler and fans but the other parts like cpu, gpu, ram, and psu low end so they arent spoiled

If they start at a budget they'll be happier for every upgrade. If he upgrades he will learn how to mount an aio.
