As a follow-up to my post below, I had the Anterior Hip Replacement surgery at the end of May. I'm happy to report that after a little more than 14 weeks later, I'm completely pain free and I'm back playing doubles tennis 2-3x per week, and riding my bike 6.5 miles several times a week. Also, I can bend over to tie my shoes and can get in and out of the car without any problems. The most important advice I can offer is to be sure to do strengthening exercises 4-5 weeks BEFORE surgery, and to follow your surgeon's & physical therapist's instructions to the letter AFTER. The stronger you can become in your hip, thigh, glute and lower back area, the easier and faster your recovery will be. There are many excellent YT videos that show how to do these pre-surgery and post-surgery exercises. Good luck to those having the THR surgery.

My surgery is at the end of May. I am so ready. The 'getting in and out of a car' and 'putting on shoes and socks' was spot on for me. Also tired of walking with a slight limp.

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips 3 years ago, but because I was overweight nothing could be done I have now lost 2 stone.., Had another x ray in February this year my GP said it was the worst he had seen.Complete loss of cartilage on both, cyst on right one and forming on left hip.Had to wait 6 months for appointment to see a physio, she has now done a urgent referral to see a consultant.I have 6 of the symptoms.Been on co codamol for all of the 3 years.. fingers crossed I won't have to wait much longer .

Wow thank you for explaining the 7 signs.
I do have them all and I’m going to be 54 in December.
I do feel my life has changed dramatically in the last 6 months. Simply walking is painful never mind other things. And one thing I haven’t been asked by my GP or physio is my ability to have an active sex life. It’s almost impossible 😢
Thank you for your honesty in the video.
I’m continuing my strength training today I have a new exercise 1 legged sit to stand and sit - wow it’s so difficult. I hadn’t realised how weak my hip is 😢

But it’s reassuring to read the positive comments ❤

I had hip X-rays. My arthritis is moderate. They said I am not close to surgery but I am afraid by the time they are severe they will tell me I am too old. I have degenerative discs I had 2 knee replacements. I have Athritis in every joint. I am doing exercises now and they are helping.

Thank you for these criteria. It's a good set of signs to indicate if your condition is getting worse over time.

On 8/5/23 I had my right hip replaced today is nearly 3 weeks after the surgery I feel great I did not need any pain medication other than Paracetamol 665 mg for the first 3 days I'm taking nothing now. That being all great I now need to have my left hip replaced later today 26/5/23 I have my first appointment with my Orthopedic team and on Monday 29/5/23 I will have my first appointment with the Physio team I will be talking to them about my left groin pain and I hope that it is not beyond Physio treatment!!

I had my right hip replaced in Nov23. Recovery was a bit rough, but it has been amazing since.
