Japan - Kimono

This film shows how a decorative obi, or waist sash, is worn with a kimono. As the traditional Japanese garment had no buttons or fastenings, an obi was used to secure it around the waist. These sashes became an important part of the whole ensemble, particularly for women, and there were many fashionable ways of tying them. The popular modern ‘drum knot’, or taiko musubi style is shown here. As the film reveals, today the obi does not actually secure the kimono; this is done by different undersashes and ties. Instead, the obi serves as a very conspicuous and sumptuous accessory.

Damn, i can't believe nobody mentioned the Kimono. It is a one of a kind, extremely valuable pieces made by THE top kimono designer in Japan. It costs an absolute fortune. One could easily buy a house for the price of this piece.
Damn V&A you're not kidding on that one !

Kimono was introduced to Japan by Korean monk as funeral clothing in plain tan material color which Japenise copied it to make it into their own clothing with coloring because they had none. Japenise history only go back 2000 years compare to 5000 years for Korea.
