Special Session 2_ From PyeongChang 2018 to Gangwon 2024

The COVID-19 pandemic shed a dark shadow over the sports communities around the world. It became difficult to forecast even the nearest future as we experienced from the postponing of Tokyo 2020. The role of sports become ever more important in rebuilding the global community and accomplishing peace in the face of crisis. This session will revisit the value of peace which represents the Olympic spirit shown in PyeongChang 2018 and talk about the role of the Olympic Games that remind people of the importance of peace and promote solidarity among different people and countries as we prepare for Gangwon 2024. The session will touch upon how Olympic Games offered hopeful opportunities to the young athletes who aspire to become Olympians and Vietnamese athletes who dream about participating in the Olympic Winter Games, even though the country does not have winter sports. We will also listen to the plans and ambition for Gangwon 2024 from the IOC members involved in the Games, and exchange ideas for successful hosting of the Games.
