I think that a good idea for Coraline 2 would be Coraline discovering that she's still in the other world and the beldam took care of her parents discovering the other world's history and escaping from becoming the new beldam once she finally defeats and kills the beldam. Now that would be a fresh, amazing sequel!

if anything, i think it would be cool to have a prequel

Hello super mega Laika fan here

I feel like Laika doing right thing since Pixar and Disney don’t really care about original projects as much anymore and just only wanna focus on “appealing to the masses” with sequels. Laika instead wants to focus on 1: original projects and 2: adaptations like their new film Wildwood, based off Colin Melody, and Carson Ellis book, also it’s interesting to know that The Boxtrolls is based off also another book (here be monsters) which is a book trilogy, but since boxtrolls is so different from its original source material, they didn’t do a sequel (aside from Travis hating sequels) and Wildwood is based off also another book trilogy, but it’s very much likely they’re not gonna do those other two books.

Also this is just my opinion, but:

I absolutely hate the idea of a Coraline 2. The story ended perfectly. It doesn’t need to continue. But I’m not against a prequel… specifically about Wybie’s Grandma and her twin sister when they were younger… maybe she was the first kid who escaped other mother… I don’t know. I think that would be interesting. But Laika we never do sequels. But that doesn’t mean we can just make fanfics have our own ideas about a sequel to a Laika movie we really love. Actually, I’m planning to make a ParaNorman sequel since surprise: writer/Director Chris Butler actually doesn’t mind making a sequel to ParaNorman (at least that an employee told me a while ago) and also there was a canceled ParaNorman show that never got picked up but that’s an entirely different story for another day.

Well my theory is probably not because when coraline tossed the key with the pieces of the beldams hand down the well that was basically it the beldam lost all of her energy from the ghost eyes when coraline found them and she is no more

Especially this year, we NEED MORE ORIGINAL MOVIES!! Coraline works fine as just one story.

I have a dark theory why there is no Coraline 2. When Coraline threw the key down the well, it went back to the other world. The other mother got the key back. She fixed her eyes that were ripped out by the cat, she then fixed her broken hand. The other mother then opened the little door with the key and she climbed through the tunnel into the real world. Once the other mother climbed through into Coraline's house, it was night time. The other mother was now in the real world inside Coraline's house. She then went into Coraline's room and killed her in her sleep and then killed Coraline's parents. That is why there will never be a second Coraline. Or maybe Coraline never escaped the other world to begin with because the actresses in the basement didn't call the police when Coraline said her parents went missing which implies that she is forever stuck in the other world. The other mother just used magic and created some sort of illusion to make Coraline think she is in the real world when she is not.

I think that a good sequel could be the hand rebuilds itself and escapes the well then opens the door and the bedlam comes to the real world and haunts people and she has to bring her back somehow

6:50 but they’re also working on adaptations as well

I don't mind a sequel or remake but I do agree that if they were to do it they justify it's exitance

There doesn’t need to be a sequel. First of all, how could the well be a portal to the Other World when you can hear a splash at the bottom when Coraline and Wybie throw the rock down there? And it’s nothing more than a well in the book also. And just because the cat disappeared behind the sign it doesn’t mean they’re still in the Other World just because we saw the cat disappear like that in the Other World. Perhaps he can still do that in the real world. By the way, how would the Beldam return when she has none of the ghost eyes to power the Other World and it is nothing more than a void. Not everything needs an answer, some things can just be left on their own and that’s okay

There's one Avenue we could go with a Coraline sequel because remember the end of Coraline where the catch is walk through the sign for the Pink Palace and then just disappears we could have the sequel be about the cat trying to basically stop all the other beldams trying to kill children to feed themselves but that still sounds a bit boring so I feel like that would need some work in order to be able to be like a good sequel because the creator of Coraline is right the same stuff from the first story it's not a good sequel we have stuff like Home Alone 2 which a lot of people don't like because it's just the same movie but this time Kevin go to New York and it's just the same old crap and it's just so freaking boring I would not want it to be like that I would want to be a story that actually had new characters I told a different and interesting story about some other dangers with predatorial people because that's basically what the first story of Caroline is about because the other mother doesn't actually care for Coraline she just wants to eat and suck on her soul and the whole entire story of Coraline is a story about learning to accept your real world and Embrace that sure it's not perfect sure things aren't always fun things aren't as colorful as they are in this other world but it's real and safe and that's the story that the first movie we'd have to do something that was still on track with the message of the first story but not the same like I the message of the the second movie would have to be kind of similar and similar how because the first movie was a message of do not sacrifice what you have for something else like abusive Predator who actually sees when somebody is unhappy and gives them what they want so they will give them something of theirs and in Coraline it's Coraline's basically free will because once she would sew the button of their eyes she would be the other mother's property because the bunnies represent everything that the other mother has created there is not one creature in the other world without my eyes because they didn't have them it would mean that the other mother didn't own them so you can have the Second Story it would have to be about something similar to that but not the same like the idea of the other mothers like for the sequel it could be about basically a abusive partner who forces you to give them everything end of the story of it would basically be about breaking free from a abusive partner I don't think that that would be a perfect idea for a sequel but it is an idea that is it different from the first movie but it's still telling a story that actually fits up with the morals and themes of the first one and is this idea of the sequel being about an abusive partner like is that the abusive partner wanting their Lover's Eyes they would be about a beldam being in the real world and stealing their lovers ability to accurately Feel Love or emotional attachment to literally anything and the other beldam would be using that feeling to keep them powerful and the story would be about somebody in a relationship that isn't the worst but they aren't getting what they want out of it which is basically just an intimate relationship with somebody who actually understands how you feel so then they'll fall into this person's trap because they actively give them what they want and care about them but it's all a lie because this person only wants one thing out of them and So eventually the main character realized that this person who they are dating doesn't love them and they would figure it out from these other people who actively have lost their ability to actively Feel Love or connection towards anyone or anything due to them being used as a person and this story might sound a bit kind of like it wouldn't work but it actually is the way that you could go for a Coraline Sequel and if you did enough changing to make it actively different from the first movie it could work and also this idea of an abusive partner who actively steals the main character's ability to feel love actually kind of relates to the origins of the beldam where in folklore they are the daughter of a fairy and what they do is that they find someone they make them fall in love with them and make them completely codependent and then eventually just leave them and then when that person dies they feed on their soul to make their self young again and I feel like the idea of an abusive partner who doesn't actively love someone and only wants one thing out of them would actually fit with the message and values of the story Coraline I think with enough tweaking of this idea it could actually be a amazing sequel that could be actively better than the first movie

Honestly, a Coraline 2 wouldn't make sense because Neil Gaiman never made a sequel to the original Coraline book, so of course sequel wouldn't make any sense, but of anything, I want a Goosebumps 3, to conclude the Goosebumps movies as a trilogy, and the closest we'll ever get to a sequel to Coraline or a reboot would have to be another dark and spooky but whimsical and fairy tale-esque children's story and film that's similar in spirit to Coraline, but it's it's own original and hot fresh new IP, with a sequel and it's own franchise, like the one that I'm working on right now which is inspired by Coraline, American McGee's Alice, The Nightmare Before Christmas and even R.L. Stine's Goosebumps to make it less creepy and gloomy and more quirky and comedic, just a new and original children's horror story and film with a super cool sci-fi twist to make it unique, which is one of my original kid friendly projects that I'm working on, and I'm probably going to announce it as a cool little side project in conjunction with my Goosebumps Fan Series, as it's kinda on the topic of Goosebumps, specifically nostalgic children's horror and Halloween-related stuff, you know.
