Why does US Import as well as Export Oil ? - Why does it make sense ?

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated that in 2020, America would produce 18.4 million barrels of oil per day and consume 18.12 million. Yet, according to the same research, the US has been importing 7.86 million barrels of oil per day in recent years.
In 2021, the US exported 8.63 million barrels per day of petroleum to 176 nations and four US territories.
Why does the US still import crude oil and refined products? And, while they are still importing oil, why do they export domestic crude – especially when prices have risen at the pump? Why don’t they just keep American oil at home?

The U.S. has been importing foreign oil since 1949! The U.S. became a net exporter of petroleum in 2020 and has increased energy production over consumption, but the U.S. still depends on international crude oil because the U.S. cannot refine all of the crude oil it produces. Many U.S. refineries cannot process the type of oil produced here, called "light" and "sweet." U.S. refineries are built to process heavier, less sweet crude (also called heavy, sour crude) from the Middle East and other overseas suppliers. That’s a holdover from past decades, when the U.S. was primarily importing its crude.

So many articles about this and its quite simple, its refinery capacity. The US is unable to refine a lot of its oil and its cheaper to export the oil and import the right oil, its just that simple.

This vid didn't age well oil prices are dropping daily and inflation is as well. The economy and stock market are up as well as jobs and workers wages. Most of the info in the vid was good though.

In simple terms, american oil is low quality and can not sustain the local demands .
