I guessed Thomas More as well. At least I was wrong in good company. Congrats Victoria!

Fun fact: Victoria Groce is now the 5th champion to have defeated James Holzhauer! The others are Emma Boettcher, Ken Jennings, Matt Amodio, and Yogesh Raut. James Holzhauer is also the 6th superchampion Victoria Groce defeated. The other were David Madden, Matt Jackson, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, and Mattea Roach.

In case you're curious, the final words of the person everyone guessed were, "I die the King's good servant, and God's first'

I read a biography on Thomas More because of my British Literature class, which included his last words. It wasn't assigned. I just wanted to read about him before I read Utopia. I guessed Thomas More because I didn't remember the year he was executed.
Thomas More's last words were: I die the king's good servant, but God's first.

My wife and I have seen A Man for All Seasons too many times to miss this one. Wolsey played by Orson Welles.

I first thought of More, then T Cromwell, but then was thinking 1530 was too early.

I finally did think of Wolsey, but wasn’t sure.

Anyways, Jonathan Pryce played Wolsey in a fantastic cast of a fantastic TV production of Wolf Hall. Wish they would make the sequel to complete T Cromwell’s story.

I threw a wild-ass guess at this and missed like the contestants. Damn that was hard.

Very close and exciting match! Unfortunately James's Single Jeopardy DD miss costed him here, but in the end I think it's pretty clear that a James and Victoria final will be epic and neck and neck the whole way through!

If Victoria maintains good consistency in buzzer speed, she could very well be a force to be reckoned with this year’s masters. Victoria gives off a Troy Meyer vibe because she has the same charm that Troy has. In fact, Victoria and Troy were trivia teammates.

She’s phenomenal. I can’t wait to see her face off against Yogesh and hopefully wipe the floor with him.

I got this only because I had a course in Tudor and Stuart history in college. At first I thought of More, but the date was too early for his death.

YES! I got it because I've read my Hillary Mantle

I had no idea, but my best guess was Machiavelli. I just looked him up and he died in 1527, so honestly I call that a win just for getting someone who died within 5 years of the date in the clue.

I've seen "A Man For All Seasons " at least 10 times. Orson Welles was great as Wolsey.

I guessed Thomas More from the TV show The Tudors.

Thomas More was convicted of "treason" for his resistance to the 1534 Act of Supremacy. This shows that even at this level, the contestants are not very good with dates. Other than that, I think Victoria is pretty impressive.

My wild guess: Thomas More lol. I have no idea who Thomas Wolsey is, but apparently Thomas More's predecessor and successor as Lord Chancellor were both named Thomas. And his predecessor and successor in the House of Commons were also both named Thomas.

Could not believe James was unable to come up with “Regulator” on that Daily Double.

I though Thomas More, but then I felt the timeline wrong. I was fairly sure More wasn't executed until after 1530. (More died in 1535.) Truthfully, I wouldn't have written "Who was Thomas Wolsey".
