In full: James Webb Telescope launches into space

The James Webb Telescope, a replacement for the Hubble telescope, has launched into space and could unlock mysteries of the universe and our place in it.

NASA, which produced the $10bn infrared telescope in partnership with the European and Canadian space agencies, has hailed it as the premiere space-science observatory of the next decade.

I did physics degree graduating in 1992 when this was first proposed.

Been following it ever since, glad it's finally here and launched successfully.

Hope it unfolds correctly.

Saw it live. Nearly had anxiety diarrhoea worrying about rocket explosions.

Can't believe it's finally happening, a real historic moment me and over half a million people got to witness.

I legit cried... because if everything turns out as it should, I will be able to contemplate more of the unknown and fascinating mysteries of the universe in my lifetime than I ever hoped for.

Pretty cool that Christmas day. Considering this idea was brought up back in the late 90's expected launch in 2006 about. So 15 years delay.
