The Church doesn't look left or right, we look up!

Reminds me of a joke I heard long ago: What is the difference between capitalism and communism? In communism man exploits man. In capitalism it is the other way around.

This is a large barrier in getting people on the pro life side. Many arguments say conservatives want babies to be born, but will do nothing to help those babies once they are born, and they are right. Catholics and all should do our part to help all humans who are struggling.

You're the real deal, Fr. Casey. Thank you for being a voice of moral clarity in an echo-chamber of emotional outcry.

This is the most levelheaded and concise analysis of all of these systems I have seen on YouTube and I would have never thought it would be from a Franciscan Monk. I’ve long hesitated to rejoin the Catholic Church I was baptized into and sort of dismissed it, but now a man dressed in medieval garb who appeals to a higher power is now the one with the objective and unbiased opinion. Me and my fiancée wherent sure to go to RCIA bit we signed up after discovering you.

I had no clue about the progressive history of the Catholic Church especially in terms of labor rights. I suppose they just build carpenters like they used to 😉

You have made me and my dianxee excited to begin our journey. I’ll definitely be tuning in.

The most pernicious form of capitalism is when private business conspires with government to leverage regulations and the judicial system to give those with enormous capital an enormous unfair advantage over those who have little capital.

Anything can be evil if we let it go unchecked . Everyone needs to be held accountable, no matter who they are .

During the Gilded Age, when many Catholic immigrants to America were poor Italians, Poles, and Irish, the Catholic Church in America was one of the most important forces organizing labor and pushing for worker's rights. While the rising material security of the average American Catholic has de-emphasized this, we have the mechanisms to return to that force whenever the faithful remember the disadvantaged.

The most profound argument put forth in this video is how it is truly impossible for someone to be incredibly wealthy (multi-billionaire wealthy) while so many people are living in abject poverty without committing significant sin. It’s a mental illness. The mentality is no different than that of a common hoarder. I can’t even fathom how these men sleep at night knowing that they have more wealth than they could consume in a thousand lifetimes. It’s a truly bizarre phenomenon. It’s sick.

It's amazing how greed has just become an acceptable excuse for corruption. I keep having arguments with a friend over things like the cost of medicine in the US and he always acts like it's justifiable to charge ridiculous prices because and put profit over life because 'people should be paid for their work', as though there is no middle ground between "Empty your savings to survive" and "Free drugs for all".

This young priest has said it perfectly. The ancient Catholic teachings about greed and its dangers could really help us now understand what we are currently seeing and experiencing and the world seems to be unraveling.

Catholicism when taken seriously can not only help persons grow in holiness and wholeness, it can also help the world manage difficult times and challenge the world to change its course and restore the world back to its balance.

The sad thing is that Americans call European capitalist economies, that that just happen to be a bit more fair, as "communist". For example because these European countries have health insurance for everybody.
Calling this "communism", as is usance for more than 50% of the Americans, only reveals the American unwillingness to talk about the huge elephants of inequity in their own American room.

Ever since Rerum Novarum the church has critiqued capitalism.

Capitalism is merely an economic system, and is not part of any Catholic belief system.

Thank you for making this video, Father. So many people, including members of my family and friends, identify as Catholic while disregarding its social teaching in favor of conservative politics. The Catholic church has never been explicitly for or against capitalism, but some believe in the gospel of capital more than their own faith despite its abuses.

You cannot serve two masters, we must choose the love of God or the love of money.

A juxtaposition with the modern world that always strikes me and i bring up to people is the idea that in major cities, how many luxury apartments/condos are empty for more than half the year?

And how many of those apartments/condos have homeless human beings sleeping beneath the buildings?

St. Paul said it best. He never said money is the root of all evil. He said *the love of money* (greed) is the root of all evil. Money and capitalism are tools. They can be used to great good. But they're not the goal of life.
