Photography Tips: How To Be Happy With Your Photos

Most of us think if we could take better photos we'd be happy with them. Actually it's the other way round. If you're happy with your photos and where you are as a photographer right now, you'll get better at photography. You'll avoid disappointment and despair and have fun with it instead.

It's been proven many times over that happy people become successful at whatever they want to become successful at. An outcome doesn't lead to happiness - happiness leads to the outcome.

_the images and events are what they are_
this is not just photography, but philosophy. Something to think about everyday. Thank you Mike.

Great advice for newbies....photographers that are just learning should never compare their work to seasoned photographers. Well said Mr. Browne

Once again, mike, you show us that photography can teach us lessons of everyday life.

Thank you! Mike for that physiological approach to taking photographs, and to life in general. I should be calling you Dr. Browne.

Came here from the Farbspiel article that carried this talk. Thank you, that is very encouraging. I have had a measure of success after 45 years enjoying my photography, but lets be honest, it has not been my first priority. Passion yes, struggle to achieve yes. Acceptance in many salons yes, but still not enough for me. I want to develop much more, an individual style and high standard in every image displayed. Meanwhile I toil.  I am still very hungry and loved your video.

Thanks Mike. I haven't watched a more honest video in months. In fact, most want to pretend this is a gift and not like any other craft that one becomes good at after persistent practice.

Hey Mike, Just a quick shout-out. I recently ran across your videos searching how-tos on You-Tube trying to learn how to use my new D7100 and all it's bells and whistles. You have quite a natural talent for making the difficult easy to understand. Your clear, concise and simple approach to explaining things has me burning through your videos like a madman! Thanks and keep up the great work.

I would say - Set yourself achievable goals and compare your photo's to the ones *YOU* took last week/month/year. Thanks Mike, great video.

These practical talks are actually more helpful than the instructional tutorials. Thanks for taking the time to make these!

As always, thank you. It is so easy to forget where all of us have started.
If memory serves me correctly I learned how to stand up and keep my balance before I ever took a step on my own.
Set a vision then set the steps that will take you there.

Quite philosophical. You said in six minutes what hundreds of pundits avoided saying in thousands of pages of text (or the video equivalent). Totally brilliant... (probably) only because I have walked the walk. Damn it, I sure do hope that many others grasp the whole of what you have said here.

Who remembers; "DESIDERATA"?; An anonymous poem which deals will all of life's enigmas. And tells you exactly how to bring yourself more happiness.
There is one one line in it that concurs exactly with Mike's lesson.
"If you compare yourself with others you will become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself".
Comparing yourself with magazine photographers is a sure-fire way to lead you to be disappointed with your photo's. You've got to put in the practice! You've also got study (read books, watch tutorials, etc) in order to improve your skills. It's not going to happen overnight.
Since I discovered Mike's videos, I take better photo's than use to. I practice everyday (weather permitting) and also practice my post production skills in Photoshop. I now understand all the modes on my DSLR'S, and as a consequence, I can shoot in manual mode with confidence.

I am more happy with my images than I ever was.

Cheers, Mike!

Good Point Mike Browne
I would just add this as my thought of the day :)
"Don’t be disappointed form your photos; learn from your mistakes and go on shoot some more tomorrow"

Hi Mike,  I am so glad that I found your channel.  This video was absolutely perfect timing for me as I was guilty of pretty much everything you talked about.  Looking forward to watching your video collection, learning more and growing as a photographer.  Thanks!

Thanks Mike for this inspiration...I own a D7100 & a D90 with a series of lenses but was never 'thrilled' with most of my pics. I was in the verge of disposing this gear & shift to 7D Mark ii after seeing few good pics from other photographers. Your video made me realise that I shld practice by dedicating more time & attention to details. Guess that I hv saved myself some money & become much wiser.
