Sperm Whale Hope's Warm and Welcoming Greeting

Hope the 4-year-old cachalot calf warms up to us and performs a thorough scan while members of her social unit emits clicks from far below. This encounter represents the favorable way that sperm whales respond when humans allow them to approach us on their own terms. The same calf had been harassed by aggressive free divers prior to this exchange, and it took her two weeks to trust and approach us again without abruptly swimming away when snorkelers entered the water. Hope and her family have gotten bold enough to get themselves filmed this past year. She's beautiful. Those aggressive divers deserve a fine for what they did to her.
