So, it looks like if you plan to make them and use them right away, the wax isn't needed? From the DIY, it sounds like the wax is to keep it waterproof and keep the alcohol from evaporating, is that correct? Thanks for the great tip!

Have you found that these have a "shelf life" after making them? Isopropyl alcohol is volatile, and while you have sealed it in paraffin wax, I would think there would be a loss of the alcohol over time to evaporation making the fire starter a little less vigorous of a flame weeks or months after you make them.

Can you use Vaseline soaked cotton balls instead?
