Jinhao 992 Fountain Pen - How to Eye Dropper

I try a few solutions to the leaks from the end of the barrel when you use as an eye dropper, fill the barrel with ink. Also more details on this amazing low cost great writing pen.

I'm not joking when I say I cannot stop buying these. I bought a box of 15 and then found it hard to break up that perfect set. So, I bought another one. And then, when I discovered the solid-color models, I bought another. My per-pen cost is something like $1.55. I could open a Jinhao 992 store at this point. Your video is very helpful, as I have found the exact same micro-issues with several of mine.

I made my 992 an eyedropper, using the same Gorilla Glue. I have to get a new nib as the EF I have is far too fine.

Glad I am not the only one that has done this.

Want a clear feed? Easy. The housing of the Monteverde Monza 3 screws into the Jinhao 992 sections.
Up to you if you retain the Fine, Medium German nibs and (non-flexing) Omni Flex nibs that come with the Monza 3 or install a Jinhao or other # 5 nib.

Nice to know the 992's can be converted to dropper pens. I have 6 incoming I want to convert. I'll get some of that Gorilla Glue, too.

Received the three Jinhao 992s Transparent two days ago. Tested them for leaks by filling the barrel with water and blowing air into it and maintaining pressure, like if you were to blow air into a ballon with your mouth. Found two of them to be leaking past the plug and cracks. As I also build plastic models as a hobby, decided to use the same plastic liquid glue by TAMIYA. I dipped the end of the barrel into my bottle of liquid glue submerging it to the point of covering the vertical cracks. This lets the liquid glue penetrate the cracks and seal them. Let the glue dry and tested by the same method and no more leaks! One down side is that the part that comes in contact with the glue will 'frost' up...small price to pay I reckon.

Thanks Chris, i kind of like the way you've given the the clear one a weird inner texture which looks interesting when its filled with ink. I have a couple of this pens now and they write nicely.

UV resin and standard resin do wonders for the cracking and leaking issues and give these pens a lot more strength.

Interesting ... I just got in the set of 6 Jinhao 992 demonstrators that I wanted to use as a dropper fed.
Amber/Brown No leaks. Blue, No leaks. Smoke, no leaks. Clear leaked around the barrel finial/plug, so I removed it and glued it in place. I'll ink it in the morning.
None of the six have any cracks.
I haven't messed with the orange or green yet. I don't have an appropriate ink for them yet. I might leave these two cartridge/converter. I don't use green much, and am not fond of orange at all, at all. I think I tossed the orange ink cartridges I had ... or included them with a pen I gave away.

I have only eyedroppered one. It has not leaked yet. But, now that I look closely, I do see ink around the plug. It has also lived a safe life so far beside the couch.

Just a bit of pen trivia, comparing Sailor and Platinum barrels. I’m rewatching 992 reviews to harvest some gluing tips. I don’t have a Sailor Procolor for comparison, but 992s also look almost identical to my Platinums Cools. I was surprised to see you show that the Sailors use an end plug, so I’ve checked my 4 Platinum Cools - no end plugs.

I did think, didn't he do this already? Not again! But I loved the video. I like your persistence, but even more your ingenuity. But best of all this, like the other videos, is a great watch. Informative and fun. And while you might not intend it, it also made me laugh. Is this guy for real? Not only is he real he is the business. What's more, while I am barred from buying pens now (for obvious reasons), even before I finished seeing the video I was on eBay and ordered a set for £10. Glorious!

I gotta stop watching your videos, because they make me want to order a boatload of these. I have a Wing Sung 698 on the way due to you, and now this. I have a lot of Jinhao metal bodied pens already and these are the last thing I need. But, the Chinese pens are mostly so well made and such a great value it's hard not to want to collect them all. I wish more people were into fountain pens because I enjoy giving them away, and these would be perfect for that.

The silicone adhesive will probably work best at not dissolving the plastic of the pen since it's used on aquariums so it's waterproof. I am not filling the tip of the pen with an amount of adhesive that would prevent it from use in cartridge converter, but the level of the adhesive goes past where any cracks would be. The adhesive would also probably prevent any existing cracks from expanding further. Also, in a new batch of 992s don't have any cracks around the plug, but they're still in the package and haven't been used yet.

I’ve seen someone pop the end off and sand the hole or the plug to remove the pressure the plug has on the barrel and then epoxy it back with no cracks. It keeps you from having a pool of glue at the bottom.

These are cheaper than the Varsity disposable, yet a far, far better pen and nib.
