Hope of Brexit breakthrough in Northern Ireland after talks with Rishi Sunak

There's new hope of a breakthrough to end years of deadlock between the UK and the European Union over post-Brexit trade arrangements.

Sinn Fein's leader Mary Lou McDonald said "significant progress has been made" to resolve the row over the Northern Ireland protocol and a deal is "very much game on", after the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held meetings near Belfast.

Put the EU's customs checks in France, not down the middle of the United Kingdom. The problem is that the British govt wants the Protocol, otherwise it wouldn't have fought in the Supreme Court to preserve it. The DUP should tell them to shove it.

Sunak needs to put his foot down and tell the EU to stop discriminating against the UK. There are goods arriving in the EU 24 hours a day from all over the world that doesn't go through all the customs checks. They make pre customs declarations which is very normal. But the UK has to go through complex customs checks on all its goods entering the EU. its pure discrimination from a wounded EU. Its now easier for China to send goods to the EU than it is for the UK, yet all of our goods were compliant with EU customs for decades. The UK doesn't expect special treatment, it expects equal treatment.
