Here is a video I re edit to show you how to tie a figure 8 knot. This is a great knot for larger diameter mono or flourocarbon leaders.

Been relying on that knot for a long time. Very low profile and quick to do. 👍

Interesting, no clue if it is typical, but I use the same knot on my kayak anchor. Never knew what it was called, just was trying to replicate the knot already on there.

Awesome instruction, Jay. Thanks.
Do you also know of a secure loop knot for 80-130 lb mono?

Seems like a great knot and I want to try it! Question though: After the 2nd loop, you said to run the tag end through the first loop. It sure looks like you ran it through the second loop as well but you didn't actually say it so there is some doubt. I've tied it and it only seems to work if the tag end continues also through the second loop before finishing. Can you clarify this?

Also known as the centauri knot and can be tied with three loops on slightly less hefty leader material.

That's a good knot but offshore I like using the uni except I loop it through the eye twice before making my knot. I don't like having my leader ran through the eye of my plugs or hooks once due to chaffing. I feel more secure knowing if I get some chaffing from my leader moving along the eye of the hook, I have 2 points of contact. After a tuna or two, I always retie.

This knot even works for single strand titanium wire . . .

I use the snell knot and yes large leader is difficult. Can the figure 8 knot be used for 130- - 150 lb tarpon?
