A visa refusal under section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) means the applicant did not establish eligibility for a visa to the satisfaction of the consular officer, as is required under U.S. law, specifically section 291 of the INA. When an applicant is refused under 221(g), it means the consular officer determined that the applicant was not eligible for a visa after completing and executing the visa application and any required interview. It is possible that a consular officer will reconsider a visa application refused under 221(g) at a later date, based on additional information or upon the resolution of administrative processing, and determine that the applicant is eligible. When a consular officer refuses a case under 221(g), she or he will convey to the applicant whether the applicant is required to provide any further documentation or information, or whether the case requires additional administrative processing.

My mother had her IR5 interview on October 3. She received a 221(g) notice and was instructed to submit some missing documents. Additionally, the visa officer retained her passport. We submitted the required documents on October 15. When can we expect to hear back from the embassy?

I had interview on the 7 june 2023 after the interview the counslor say I got 221g, the reason of the 221 g I have not with me the Medical check up the counslor told me please go to for your Medical and they are sent us via email your Medical, when i got my Medical the medical office told me we can't send via email after that i take decided i send my Medical via courier service.
The first day i checked status of my case the last update were on 7 june 2023 now i checked it last were on 21 june 2023!!
Give me a little bit information about it!!

I had a interview 19 th april 2023.I got a yellow paper of condtional visa approval.from this day I am waiting for passport delivery up to 14 jun 2023.finally today I got my passport with visa and give a paper mention .

Hi my husband had his interview in Sept 2023, they gave him a white slip requesting addt’l info. The date status has changed only twice but still say refused and still has his passport. It’s been over 3 mths and still no response our atty doesn’t know either.

My husband had applied for L1 blanket visa and we had our interview on 17th of September, and the consulate informed us that she can't issed our visa now until we go into AP, and retured all our papers and passports.we check our status everyday and the only message appeared (your search did not return any data) despite our information are correct. Any advice??

Hi sir the consulate took my passport but before that they gave me the 221(g) white paper because the doctor didn't send my medical examination but as soon as he sent it i went back to check up and the consular gave me a little white paper who said that i have to pick my passport with the visa at the DhL when the process is finish now my question is how long they finna take to review my case and give my passport?

Can somebody please help me answer those questions….so I went to my interview April 30 2024 for a I-129 f1 visa at the time my interview went smoothly at the time there was no medical date available until after my interview which was may 9 they give me a 221g form request my passport after I finished my medical which I did… it’s been 4 weeks an 5 days now and my case update once and it still said refused what’s happening???

It took near about a week to change the status From refused to AP and AP to Approved, may i know in this situation usually how many days take to get issued after approved and hw many days take to get back the passport, Thank you

Dear sir, thanks for the video. I attended interview for H1b a month before and got Administrative processing. Counselor just said need more time to process and no documents requested. Today i got below mail.

Dear Applicant,

With reference to your U.S. Visa application, we kindly request you to submit your passport (also your dependents whose visa applications are already in administrative processing with U.S. Consulate Chennai) and a printout of this e-mail at one of the 5 Visa Application Centers (VACs) or 6 VFS offices.

Does it mean visa is approved ? My status of DS160 is still refused.

Can you give your advice on my case please? I have applied for E2 VISA with my wife and kid. We all approved me and my kid received the passport bit my wife didn't. The status shows approved, we emailed them they said it's in administrative processing. But status says approved. It's 10 days after interview.

Hi… My friend has got the 221g and asked him to send a new Photo and the Passport once u reach home. He did the same following day and he kept checking the status after a few days it stated an administrative processing and later it stated as refused. After a week he got the passport back with the another 221g saying the same they require the passport and newly taken photo. What does the letter mean??? Should he resend the passport and the photo? Hello sir, if you can answer me please. I went for an interview in November 2023. They gave me 221G. Since I left the embassy and it only said READY, it lasted 3 months in ready. Last week it changed to the administrative process. The next day it changed to Refused
. I've been refused for a week.

and they have been updating the case for 3 days in a row. What does it mean? Can it be changed to issued soon?

I applied for a C1/D as a cabin crew. I had my letter from the company and they put me on 221g and they kept my passport and said “hopefully I can approve it”. Do you know how long is gonna take? Is it everything ok if the Consul didn’t ask for more documents, just gave me white slip with admin processing marked?

My wife has been for a US EMBASSY interview in London for H4 visa
they gave a 221g white letter saying no documents needed but they have taken i797 and the passport copy of mine. Can you let me know why is that so and how much time will it take to process
