New Rocket League seasons always call for new things to talk about. This season, Psyonix decided to drastically change how ranked works by resetting 3v3 and 2v2 especially a lot more harshly than normal. People's 2v2 ranks were decreased by 300 MMR, which is 2-3 full ranks. That is a lot. Today we talk about the details and the reasoning behind that decision, as well as other recent topics in the Rocket League community.

The most upsetting part for me personally was that I had made a climb in skill from c1-c3 in the last few weeks of the season and I was hoping to make my first push for GC and now I'm back to where I started in the previous season without actually getting any worse.

I’m actually so glad you took the time to explain what was happening with the MMR this season. I ended last season at Champ 1 Div 3 and I am now sitting at Diamond 1 Div 4. I was losing my mind about how I could have possibly dropped so far.

8:08 i do agree with it too i was the same rank as you and dropped to c2 div4 after almost winning all but i think its fun the only bad thing is that there's actual c2's in c2 (i know it sounds weird but after a rank reset everyone should be lower) so the games are so luck based you can get a ssl or a normal c2 same with opponents

I agree with you about the rank displacement. Last season, I was Diamond 1 division 1 and at the start of my placements, I was ranked Platinum 3 division 3 and after winning 8 of my placement games, I again landed on Diamond 1 division 1.

I feel like Rocket League Racing is just Rocket League 2 (made with Unreal Engine 5). Maybe the fact that it's been 2 years means they are almost done (please)

I went from GC to C1 from the reset. Here’s my view on it; all GC1s are in C1, if you are to move in C2+ that just means you’re more like a GC2. Basically, had they have kept the harsh reset, champion would be the new GC and that would cause every rank below it to be lowered as well. It was definitely fine the way it was before. I’m goad they gave us our MMR back.

There's also a huge problem, the disconnected bar appears a little bit often than usual. I've played two ranked which suprise suprise got me disconnected. If you high ranked players say it's a "skill issue" It's not all about that topic. People like me constantly try to defend while our 2 teamates challenge on 1 opponent, which ruins my development as well as decreasing the rank.

I was D2 in 3s in S10, and I got P2 rank in S11.
The most scary thing is there is no escape from this rank now. The absolutely all matches are clown fiesta and nothing more.
I'm really sad about this Psyonix decision.
My goal for S11 was - get Champ rank in 3s. Now I wish to escape plats. Horrible.

They probably had the stats to back up the revert on MMR hit. For ranks in general it's called an adjustment factor and that magic multiplier had to be adjusted to make ranks distributed 'better'. For each playlist they'd also need a population adjustment, that's why it's not a flat x% across the board. If it was the top 0.5% for every playlist, your least populated playlist would be the easiest to get GC in and your most populated playlist would be the hardest.

the problem with the reset is that it hit people in different amounts. Some are still in their respected mmr and others gone down drastically. And it also depends highly from where you started. if you gone down from GC to C3 people can still play but if you dropped from c2 to d2 you are completely fu**ed to get back out of this :D

I think I actually noticed the mmr change. Last season I was Diamond but after my placements matches I was Platinum 3 instead. But then when I was playing on day it felt like it was getting easier. I then ranked up to Diamond again. It might be because I hadn’t played in a time and then got comfortable again but I might also have experienced the change

5:43 not only the challenge of it but i also highly doubt the physics would be the same if they switched. all the high ranked players would have to unlearn and relearn how to read the ball and do certain mechanics

@WaytonPilkin take this idea into consideration. For the next time you do “what will be META in 2024 rocket league” or how you call it, you should have one of the mechanics be no flip flicks. It’s very common in sideswipe, but I’ve begun to see more pros using the mechanic in their gameplay. Footage examples are, Sosa’s best assist of the week in the spring invitational recently, and a 1v1 show match between appjack and firstkiller. Jack scores one to tie the game up in game two. Just thought it was cool and it would be cool to see that in the video, but obviously up to you
