The reason first mission was cut cause it was a combat tutorial for a player to get to know how game works. That mission had no significance to the story at large. And I actually loved how they expended Tess’s story a little in the first episode and even here with some changes.

A fungus is actually only the reproductive organ. Another part of the fungus is called mycelium, looks very much like the tendrils coming out of their mouths, grows mainly underground and it forms colonies of fungi. When two colonies meet is possible for them to combine. Some threes and plants make symbiosis with these fungi and share chemicals and nutrients.

Edit: Fungi are NOT plants

GRACE, FUNGI ARE NOT PLANTS! The changes that are made in this show are both accurate and consistent with the organism. The best and scariest part of the LOU is how grounded in reality it is and the show runners are being consistent with that theme. I appreciate that very much.

I’m really enjoying this show. More video game adaptations would be on this level if they just let the creators help. I think the changes they made to the Infected and how they spread/communicate was pretty smart. The changes they’ve made so far aren’t irrational or bizarre, they actually make sense.

As a fan of the game, I forgot to say I LOVED the acting in the capitol from Joel and Tess, to see the urgency in Tess, looking for a radio or something, evething she said and how Joel reacted. I know we didn't spend a lot of time with her but that just made me so sad for her. Great episode!

It was perfect As a fan of the game this show so far has got it down. I loved the ending too. It’s unique and elevates the original story and this one too

This episode was incredible. Neil knocked it out of the park. Anna Torv KILLED IT. Her speech was SO much more impactful here than in the game. Her actual death was also VERY interesting. It's almost like that infected was mating with her. It even approached her calmly. It definitely recognized her as one of them. I think it's VERY clever. Somehow, I think the changes the show has made so far are bothering Grace more than us who have actually played the games. Kind of a weird way to criticize an *adaptation*. it's not meant to be a replication. I also really hate how she keeps insisting this is no different from other "zombie" stories. She's really selling TLOU short by saying things like that. It's just not true

Tess is actually more developed and explored on this show, she dies exactly where she does in the game. As a game fan I knew Tess would die this episode. The mission in the game with her is the tutorial on how to play the game and she’s really just a side character used as a teaching tool, though her impact is felt in the game through Ellie’s journey.

I read a comment on another video saying how Tess’s kiss was symbolically the kiss she wanted to give Joel but couldn’t. I had thought about it from a scientific pov that “fungus gotta transmit & she wasn’t trashing around to make them bite, makes sense” but this more metaphoric pov also makes so much sense!

Also the way Joel looked at her, just piercing nonwithstanding stare. That last look spoke a million words. Like he knew it would be the last time he would see her so he was “taking a picture” of her. Then immediately took Ellie without turning back because that HAD to be his last look :(

Ugh so well made, Naughty Dog reeaaally needs to make a 20-Year Blank Period prequel game. Get us that JoelxTess backstory. Amazing episode & Anna Torv did an astounding job!

Mycelium connects individuals in forests and they communicate via the network. Trees send each other chemicals and nutrients, and all kinds of signals via the network. It's pretty cool actually. I think this show, as awesome as it is, might make people unreasonably scared of the natural world, mycelium included. Kinda like the effect Jaws had on public perception of sharks.

Ellie didn't step on that hand on purpose there was growth all over that floor I'd be amazed at anyone to see where they were stepping even with a flashlight

The fungal tendril communication is from mycelium that creates and underground network. There is mycelium in Oregon that makes it the largest living organism in the world. So, how they communicate in the show is based on real world fungus.

The complexities of Joel and Tess’ relationship is what makes the game so good and what will be the strength of the show. It’s about the characters and the relationships.

Mushrooms (which I believe are fungus) really can communicate through their rooting system and can even help out other plants near them if they aren’t doing so well! 🤒

Scary stuff! Love your breakdowns grace!

It feels different to other zombie shows. The cordycept linking system is really interesting and unique. Also the fact its more drama show and the zombies are just a bonus

The big thing you should remember grace is nature has no goals except expansion. The fungi just will want to expand and consume. Like cancer.

Also plants and fungi do have "neural" networks. Mycelium for fungi like the show explains. And in the rocky mountains, Aspen trees also have a massive communication network through root networks. There's no localized hive mind but they do behave like a singular organism.

The scene where Joel grabs Ellie’s arm and starts running really gave me goosebumps. So impressed will all they’ve added on to the lore and how the infection works. Incredible so far

I mean... it was incredible. The opening sequence was a fantastic addition. I was also really impressed with Druckman directing as a first time

When Tess implies Joel never felt the same way she did for him I wanted to hold her. I like how the writers made it seem that nature tried to bring comfort to Tess in this “kiss of death”. The infected could've violently interacted with Tess but she dies with a kiss, SO CREEPY but effective! (For those who are upset with that final scene “NewRockstars” gives an amazing interpretation + breakdown).

Having played the game, the build-up and tension in this episode was phenomenal. Even though I knew what was coming in one way or another, I still was on the edge of my seat worried what was going to happen next. While the first episode was a great start, this was a suspenseful follow-up and I’m very excited for next week’s episode.
