Tuesday Taste Test: Aged Cheddar Cheese

After filming a few of our scotch tasting videos we were up for a snack and Tarah decided to break out an assortment of really terrific aged white cheddar cheeses. All of these should be pretty easy to find and we got them at Costco.

If you're honestly watching us for 10 minutes talk about nothing but cheese, then you're clearly already on board with what we're about in this house. :-)

More of this! Aged Gouda next! The 2013 Tillamook is my favorite but not worth the cost. Beechers Flagship from Costco is the perfect intersection of price and taste. But for me, nothing beats the nuttiness of an aged gouda paired with Washington Honeycrisp apples or the new Cosmic apples.

Totally, absolutely, 100% on board with this. There used to be an amazing cheesemonger who set up a shop/tasting-line (of something like 30 different cheeses) at my favorite wool festival, and I'd break into a run out of the gate to get there as early as possible. Sadly, he wasn't there last year, so the closest I can get is the Vermont Country Store (which is suuuper touristy, but worth a visit), which has a smaller selection, but some equally splendid offerings (and they ship!).

if you have not tried cougar gold from Washington State University Creamery you need to do it as soon as possible. This is a treasure of Washington that will make you happy to live here.

Perfect cheese plate at non-extortionate prices: Sage Derby, Cotswold, Chevre, Stilton or something similarly blue, and either a smoked gouda or a truffle gouda if you cand find it cheap at trader joes.

Deer Creek Vat 17 is my absolute fav, should try it.
Also surprised there's no Kerrygold aged cheddar / Dubliner... usually really easy to find and tasty.

Thank you both for this! I've not tried either of the UK cheeses, but certainly will once it's safe to go into Costco again (after Thanksgiving). Nice not to have to go to a cheesemonger to get the good stuff.
