The Most FANTASTIC Tech and Gear Review Sites I've Found

When I’m thinking of buying new things I always end up doing two things. Looking at people’s reviews on the site I’m buying from and YouTube-ing it and searching for reviews about it. And most of the time, that works out. But sometimes. I want the juicy details but there isn’t anything like that even after looking through 10 different reviews of the same product. What if I want to see how hot my laptop gets in this very corner? Or this one? Some reviews actually get that detailed. Today we’re going to talk about some great places to look for amazing reviews on the internet, and on YouTube. Let’s get started.

Check out the amazon affiliate links to the gear I use in my videos here:

The next one is RTINGS. Originally, they reviewed only TVs and provided in-depth information with, you guessed it, a rating system. But over time they added new categories like headphones, monitors, keyboards, mice, and even… printers? They are just as detailed as the sites I mentioned earlier, and their rating system breaks it down to the type of content you watch on a TV as well. They do similar breakdowns for all the other products they review as well as recommend better products for the price of the product you’re looking at. They do have a youtube channel, but I felt their site had more detailed reviews, and contained more content in general. I don’t really watch any youtubers that I could see as a replacement for RTINGS.com because they’re really unique.

"If you don't speak English, how are you watching this video?"
I personally speak English, but I often get asked for tech recommendation by relatives who don't. The fact that I can now point them towards that site that they'll be able to read is great.

What I’ve learned from Amazon reviews: it’s more of a thumbs up/down system... products with big flaws but generally work can have 5 stars. And people literally not knowing how to properly use something gives 1 star for user error... I usually read 4 stars and some 1 stars.
ie: if you didn’t know, wooden cutting boards need a mineral oil/bees wax coating to be water resistant and repel odors/bacteria and can’t be machine washed. Yet people give poor reviews and didn’t coat it

Thanks for the video, I had not heard of rtings before! For packs, there’s two big blogs, Carryology and The Perfect Pack. Also, Pack Hacker has a second quick hits YouTube channel dedicated to just introducing a product. For tech, I read Anandtech for their occasional comprehensive reviews. For outdoor gear, I use outdoor gear lab. Thanks for the heads up on where you look for info!

Love the video and the humor you always throw in, makes it feel more human. I usually check photos on reviews because those people seem to put in a little more effort than most. Then I see if YouTube has any. Depending on the price of the product depends on how much time I'll invest in looking at reviews.

I wish you put links to what you talked about in the description. IMO, your script has no place in the description, it's just for your eyes to see

Until now I've just been going on a deep dive in research learning everything about the product type before buying it. Ex. I needed headphones so I did enough research to become a guy who likes headphones just so I could buy them.

A good supplement to Rtings (for TV gear at least) is Stop the FOMO. He's a small-ish Youtuber, like you, but also has some very good content.

Great video, saving it for future reference. I am the type of person that usually only resorts to reviews after my ability to find, validate, and understand the technical specifications I think I care about has been exhausted.

As someone who usually buys either the cheapest stuff possible or chooses well known, established and approved companies I really feel thrown when I have to research some specific thing I want to buy.
Buying a bike lock that will hopefully satisfy me didn't seem nearly as hard as it was.

I generally go to YouTube to get a common overview of the category I am looking for ( exmp. Bluetooth speaker ) and look at what products are mentioned often and which ones are more unique
Then I go into the webs and look on different rating websites - most often I start googling top bugdet speakers - then again comparing it to my YT list
After that I always end up with a few favorite candidates and for those I look closer on websites reviewing them

Sadly JRR isn't anymore ... Your audio college Jimmy always had very nice videos to watch

I never knew I could find this much information on products I wanted to buy. Thank you. I will definitely be using these resources.
Quick edit: It would be helpful if you would post links to these review websites and youtube channels in the description. It isn’t a huge deal, it just saves me from having to rewatch the video and manually write them down.
