Ukraine struck the NIP-16 Deep Space Communications site in Yevpatoria, Crimea.
As per reports, the strikes were carried out by U.S. made Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS)

The Yevpatoria Center for Deep Space Communications supports both manned and unmanned space missions and has two sites both of which seem to have been hit.

Satellite images indicate the presence of several scorch marks.
Footage circulating on social media showed massive fires, following the strikes.

NIP 16 was designed as long range communication hub. Russia likely repurposed it for communication with its forces across Ukraine. Ukraine constant attacks on Crimean targets is making clear how much Russia depends on Crimea and Ukraine 's goal of strategically cutting Crimea out of the picture completely

This was disappointing. What little discussion there was of the "implications" for damaging the NIP-16, made generous use of "may", "could" and "maybe", so as to impart little meaning. Personally, I think the attack on NP-16 could result in serious damage to the green cheese making up the Moon, may limit Russia's ability to impede the cows jumping over the Moon, and maybe even result in a tax increase. :)

Since NIP-16 is west of Baikonur it would not be in position to communicate with a vessel while it ascends to orbit, and it is likely not far enough west to be used during the de-orbit burn of a Soyuz, which I believe takes place far over the Atlantic. I'm not sure if Soyuz can communicate directly with the US TDRSS satellite constellation, but it seems likely they can, in which case communications with crewed space missions is unlikely to be seriously affected.
"Degrading communications with space assets" is probably a good way to put it, since it's likely not positioned correctly to communicate with a crewed spacecraft at an important milestone during a mission.
I'd be surprised if this was considered significant enough for Ukraine to devote assets for this mission. NIP-16 is probably used as a communications hub for the Russian military and the goal was to degrade their military communications.

no. Russia prior to 2014 had 3 sites like this in addition to numerous other smaller elements of ground control network. Anexation of Crimea did not add anything cirtical to it, and destruction of NIP-16 makes no difference for any Russian space capabilities that deteriorate independently becuase of sanctions and war costs, lack of management, corruption and lack of engineers. Nothing had changed. In additon Russia has complete coverage of near Earth Space thanks to its antiballistic radar systems put on ground. Stop spewing nonsense. In order for it to be a hit of this importance one of the 3 other facilites would have to be destroyed deep inside Russia. That was attack of opportunity, it is a small hit, potentially more important for war theater than for space due to the fact that NIP-16 also can detect things in the air. The last conclusions-psychology + prospect of holding Crimea not attainable for Russia is true goal and purpose. Ukrainians are regularly conducting very interesting tactical operations targeting various radars and other expensive equipment there. So THIS is their goal, not what video concentrates on which is as I said nonsense.
