A couple of comments, first about GPS and second about how temperature affects air density.

I am a retired geophysicist who used GPS for positioning geophysical data. GPS relies on travel times to calculate a position. It requires a minimum of 4 satellites, 3 to calculate position via 3D triangulation and one to synchronize the clocks.

Two other factors affect the accuracy - the relative geometry that the three satellite positions have ( dispersed is better) and how accurate the ephemeris (equation of the satellite's orbit) for each satellite is.

Obviously, having more satellites gives better geometry for triangulation, and better accuracy.

Since your position is calculated relative to the satellite's orbit, an accurate ephemeris is important. The ephemeris is calculated frequently, and must be downloaded to the GPS receiver. On older GPS units, sometimes you'd have to wait for a newer ephemeris to be downloaded.

Air density vs temperature: I also volunteered on a Search and Rescue team which extensively used helicopters. The temperature affects air density which affects how much weight the helicopter can lift (less capacity in hot weather). We would have to calculate this in the summer to see how much weight the helicopter could safely carry ( this affects airlines too at airports at higher elevations like in the Rockies).

Logically, this seems it would affect drones, too, since they are just tiny helicopters...

When I have the drone sitting idle when programming or updating, I have a desktop fan blowing from the front to simulate forward motion... works great keeping it cool.

Thanks, this was very helpful particularly how to manage the final 25% of the battery. I often don't fly far enough to be a concern and get annoyed when the drone stops to return to home. This reminded my how to manage this and have to get that in my mind on my preflight thoughts.

I learned the hard way, All 3 of my batteries malfunctioned for leaving them in my car & also always keeping them stored in the battery case, but DJI replaced it for Free!

I've been in the Mojave flying in 111-115 degrees and other than the batteries depleting quicker than normal I have had no issues.

The only thing I can think of that would make it so that it kept descending while you were in cruise control was that when you press the cruise control on button you had accidentally pulled the down stick down a little in which case it would remember that as well Either that or your up and down stick is not centring properly
