How to Install Openvpn in Ubuntu and Connect From Ubuntu and Windows 10

In this video I will show you how to install Openvpn in Ubuntu Server. Also, we will be installing openvpn client in Ubuntu desktop and Windows 10 to establish a connection to the server.

Awesome tutorial. I got it done in less than 5 minutes. I had to install net tools and ufw, somehow managed all that, used winscp to get the ovpn file and added it to my android phone and boom! Working. Thank you.

Hi, hopefully the topic is not forgotten after that much time, ...I have a question here. I assume the server setup requires public IP adsress in order to be able to conect to it from remote clients. I do not have static above the server, is there a way how to omit this and use for example domain which is being updated with ddns. Is that save solution?

The system does not have the TUN device available.
TUN needs to be enabled before running this installer.

How to solve this problem ?

So my self hosted box is not working. On my client i get the error "peer certificate verification failure" I even removed my cert and added a new one and it is still not working.

Hi there! So really good video... BUT! some constructive thoughts here... I'd suggest 2 things...
1) if you can, I would edit out when you mistype netstat... that's kinda a waste of time ;)
2) around 10:31... when you talk about the windows config area in the systray.. no one can see what you are talking about - because the video of your face is covering that area. Perhaps redo that part and move your face square thing to a different area.
But all in all - very helpful! Thanks!

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and I get this error when trying to run the installation script:

"Ubuntu 22.04 or higher is required to use this installer."

Do you know if/how I can get around this without changing the OS?

Thanks very much, this was the only tutorial that works for me, with the others i was getting errors like TLS handshake failed, or i do get the connection with the ovpn server, but dont have internet in both machines, so really helpful tutorial

the wsl that I used is debian buster version, and i have a problem on enabling ufw configuration. the error is say the iptables is not support, but on your simulation it can be on wsl ubuntu. how can I fix it? thanks

WinSCP is nice, but wouldn't cat work faster?

ssh to server
cat the filename.ovpn
select content and copy in terminal [ctrl+c]
paste in notepad [on windows] and save filename.ovpn
