3. Performing Umrah - The Tawaf
Показать описание
Assalamu Alaikum and welcome to this guide on how to perform Tawaf, one of the most significant rituals of Hajj and Umrah. In this video, we'll walk you through each step of Tawaf, explain the importance of each corner of the Kaaba, and discuss what to recite during the ritual. We’ll also explore the spiritual reasons behind performing Tawaf.
Tawaf is the act of circumambulating the Kaaba, the sacred house of Allah, seven times in a counterclockwise direction. This ritual is an integral part of both Hajj and Umrah, symbolizing the unity of the believers in the worship of the One God, as they move in harmony around the Kaaba.
Before you begin Tawaf, ensure that you are in a state of Wudu (ritual purity). You can perform tawaf whether in Ihram or non ihram state, either way you should be in a state of wudu and enter Masjid al-Haram with humility and reverence. For the purposes of this video, we are in Ihram state. When you reach the Kaaba, make your way to the Black Stone (Al-Hajar Al-Aswad) to start your Tawaf.
Let’s discuss the four corners of the Kaaba, each of which holds unique significance.
• 1. The Black Stone (Al-Hajar Al-Aswad):
This is where Tawaf begins. If possible, touch or kiss the Black Stone; if not, simply raise your hand toward it and say "Bismillah, Allahu Akbar."
• 2. The Yemeni Corner (Rukn al-Yamani):
This is the corner just before the Black Stone. It is sunnah (recommended) to touch this corner, but if you can't, continue walking without raising your hand. Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, recite:
"Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaban-nar"
Which means: "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire."
• 3. The Iraqi Corner (Rukn al-Iraqi) & 4. The Syrian Corner (Rukn al-Shami):
These corners do not have specific actions associated with them. Continue your Tawaf with the recitations, du'as, or prayers of your choice.
So, once at the Black Stone Corner (this is the corner where the door of the house of allah is, say Bismillahi Allahu Akbar, and then unwrap your top half of the ihram to expose your right shoulder.
During Tawaf, you are encouraged to engage in dhikr (remembrance of Allah), supplications, or simply reflecting on the greatness of Allah. While there are no mandatory prayers to recite, the following phrases are commonly used:
• SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
• Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)
• Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)
• La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
Feel free to make personal supplications for anything your heart desires, whether for yourself, your loved ones, or the wider Muslim community.
When you come back round to the Yemeni corner, noticeable by the design of the corner, recite "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaban-nar"
Which means: "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire." Until you get to the black stone corner. Upon arrival of this corner, continue to raise your hand towards the door of allah’s house, exclaiming Allah hu akbar. This is the end of the first circuit. Repeat this 7 times.
After completing the seventh circuit, proceed to the area behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible, and pray two Rak’ahs of Tawaf. This is a highly recommended act. After that, you may go to drink from the Zamzam well, which is nearby.
So, why do we perform Tawaf? The act of circling the Kaaba symbolizes the believer's life, which revolves around the remembrance and worship of Allah. It represents our constant devotion, as well as the centrality of faith in our lives. Just as the planets revolve around the sun, we revolve around the spiritual center of Islam, seeking closeness to Allah.
Tawaf also reminds us of the unity of the Ummah, as Muslims from all over the world, regardless of race or status, come together in worship, moving as one body with a single purpose.
