Before commenting things like "that particular song or sound was not on a DX7", please read this:

The shining moments refers to the synth being showcased whether visually or audibly. If you look at all my other shining moments videos for other synths, you'll see that a lot of times, they're just props, but appear publicly in a cool spot and get shown off thereby giving it a shining moment. I put the song names just to let people know what is playing during the clip because in my first few videos, people kept asking "what song is that clip at so and so timecode"? So now, I just include it. This synth is still there either being used or being showcased by that artist visually, and studio utilization has no bearing on whether that clip would make it in the video. For some of my videos like the Jupiter-8, Roland D-50, and Emulator II, I included actual studio audio of the exact part being played because it was specifically used and audible in the sessions.

TV appearances whether it's prop'd or not, do count because it is a "shining moment" for this synth. It is being displayed in a cool environment by usually cool artists. This video doesn't claim that those exact songs were used with it in studio sessions exactly. I just put the song titles on there to avert a million questions about what song it is by curious new listeners not familiar with these artists.

Also, how do you know 100% it wasn't used? Brian May of Queen would use 2-3 different guitars with several pedals such as Harmonix or Big Muff with Marshall or Peavey amps... for just on one single riff of one song. If you mixed and matched them all together in a mix, even the makers of that gear wouldn't know 100% what was or wasn't being used. Even if you've read something from a band member, that's not 100% reliable either. They may have left the studio and the producer peppered something in there. It happens. Not only that, but it's been a long time for exampled bandmember or producer or intern, many recordings, concerts, life in general, and most of the time, drugs and/or alcohol.

If you knew this synth well, you would know that it works like a sampler in a roundabout way. You could sample sounds from other synths, put them on an empty DX7 ROM and stick in the DX7 or Grey Matter E Card or the II-D/II-FD. Also, others on here claim models of other synths that were used on a specific song in this video. That's just one sound. Layered with other synths, tweaked, by the end, you don't know for sure. Sometimes, bands would lie about what they used because they were embarrassed to be thought of as basic DX7 users or wouldn't divulge their secret weapon. Too many variables you don't know about to make confident comments. For the record, I do own a DX7 mki with ROM cartridges as well as a DX7 II-FD with Grey Matter E Card, and none of them are my favorite. However, I have to respect the history and massive presence.

If you want to hear my real hardware DX7, DX7 II-FD, DX21, and DX 27 synthesizers in my 80s act, just search "Jason Mysteria" on all music streaming services and here on YouTube. Thank you for watching.

Whoever came up with the idea of putting the company logo on the back side of pianos was a genius. That is the ultimate form of promotion on a worldwide level.

When I played in a band in the 80's, my equipment was a D50, DX7 IIFD and a U110. It was perfect🥰

Those of us playing music during the 1980s were indeed blessed with some sensational mainstream pieces of kit from great manufacturers like Yamaha, Roland and Korg.

What made the stock DX-7 and the II sound thin compared to the later D-50 and M1 was the effects. D-50 and M1 they were onboard, which made the big ringing leads and pads sound good out of the box. Once you put a chorus and some light reverb on the DX-7 it is just as much a gem. We always mixed FM wtih the Roland LA, as they complement one another well.

they probably often used dx 7 as a prop in videos as it was cool. Big budget studios use a lot of layered synths and processing to get that big sound we often hear on the final tracks

I was still in school when the original DX7 was in mainstream use, but a few years later I did get a DX7s (from the same series as the IIfd) for which someone offered me a late 80s USA stand strat+ £300, I snapped his hand off. I also had a Korg M1 and Roland D70, but my main rig for well over a decade was a Yamaha PF Piano, Korg 01WFD and Korg Karma. The sounds from the 01 and the Karma were just so warm.

Dx7/D50/expandeurs et échantillonneurs des années 80, c'était le Top à l'époque quand je jouais en orchestre 🎹👍. Une très bonne continuation musicale.

Glad I still have my original. Circa 1985.

I love it! I remember when my wife told me at a Goodwill "Hey, there's one of those piano things you like on the shelf" While it wasn't the legendary DX7 it was a DX11 ($20 by the way) that weighed a ton with marks and labels all over it to help the band set it up prior to a concert. I had no idea how much I would grow to love understanding the "Digital Programable Algorithm Synthesizer" which is extraordinarily difficult on the piano only. It was fun. Today...with Ableton, a $100 Akai MPK mini and a $60 Launchpad Mini I can make just about anything, but I do miss the.... difficulty of the DX11. What people could do on a 2x16 character display for additive and subtractive synthesis.... amazing! Thank you for the vid!
