Plenty of Irish people don't drink. We just like to socialise & party. If you think potatoes are boring then you're cooking them wrong. Irish men are very protective, funny, & surprisingly shy beneath the bravado. Yes, they love their mammy but if you're nice to your Irish boyfriend you too can have an Irish mammy! They're amazingly supportive & always cooking and baking.

Irish men are so fun! I went to Dublin by myself once on one of my travels and had such a good time. Irish men tend to have such a great sense of humor and are very chill. They don't take themselves so seriously which was super refreshing for this New Yorker:-)

Yeah a lot of that is true. When people talk about "traditional Irish families" they mean that families here are very close knit and will never leave each other's side whenever someone needs help. I can also confirm that for both Irish men and women, their mother is the primary person in their life: everyone will always go to their mother first for advice and everyone loves their mother's cooking! :D

Not dating an Irishman, but one other thing to add, from personal experience: the Irish have some of the most scathing senses of humour out there, hands-down. A guard in Dublin joked about my partner wearing bright green tracksuit bottoms. I joked back that I would, "never lose him in a crowd" because they were so brightly-coloured - and without missing a beat, the guard says, "Damn shame that, lass." I don't think a stranger has ever had me laughing so hard before.
