The Sugar Loaf

The Sugar Loaf rises above Abergavenny in South Wales, it is the beautiful gateway to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. On this climb my friend Neil and I started from the Porth-y-Park car park, a short drive up from the town. Our weather was mixed- heavy rain showers interspersed with sunny periods at the top, then heavy rain on the way down (too heavy to film in places). A superb day that I won't forget.

The rain made the colours pop on both the drone and ground level footage at the top. It’s a beautiful mountain for sure.

One of my favourite peaks in the black mountains. You showed it off well with the aerial footage.
I spent a very cold night up there with Warren last year. Such a beautiful place to wake up!

Sugar Loaf is such a lovely summit and with your drone you showed off the overall shape too. Timing was perfect as it seemed to rain a lot on your way down. Another good trek out there in the Brecon Beacon area Hedley - and yes indeed - we have a camping trip planned!

Absolutely stunning drone artistry Hedley!. Now I live in Tasmania we have a Sugarloaf mountain within our view. ..My favourite place to go in winter UK when life wasn't going as planned and I needed space to think was Killhope Cross on the county Durham - Cumbria border. Spectacular in winter, but I'm unsure if or where you could camp.

Hi Hedley, Looks like it was going to be very slippery on the way down, no mishaps I hope!!

You had a perfect window of opportunity on top to fly the drone and the clouds did make a magnificent backdrop. I can imagine the drone has limited water resistance, if you got caught out do you think you would loose control of it?

The ancient woodland was superb.
