When I first started playing commander I was new to both the game store and the state. Not knowing anyone, I got paired with the group no one else joined. Comprised of a hyper competitive ex pro, and a hyper competitive life time collector (and the other new person to the shop). Games were rough and I never won once.
Life happened and I took a break for a year. Recently got back and I'm playing with new groups. And I win pretty often. Turns out getting my start against old pros was like anime training in the mountains.
