I'm a gun owner. I have a pistol for self defense. I'll never understand other gun owners who do not want to ban assault rifles. As a gun owner with a pistol, I don't want to have to try to defend myself against someone with an assault rifle. That's just insane. Every gun owner should support banning assault rifles. No gun owner carries an assault rifle for self defense. Even for home defense, using an assault rifle is insane. Rifle bullets travel farther than pistol bullets. I would never fire an assault rifle in my house or on the street for self defense. It puts everyone around you in danger. Plus my pistol holds only 15 rounds (16 with one in the chamber). An assault rifle magazine holds 30 rounds. Good luck as a pistol owner against an assault rifle with 30 rounds.
