Reduce computer eye strain with the right desk setup! Learn how to avoid digital eye strain with this ergonomic desk setup and tips!

A proper desk setup includes setting things up ergonomically. Set up your desk with your computer screen about an arms length away, just enough where you can touch the screen with your fingertips.
Next you want to make sure the computer screen is about eye level or slightly below eye level by about 10-15 degrees.
You will also want to adjust the tilt of the screen to slightly face upward towards your eyes.
With just these few adjustments your ergonomic desk setup should help with reducing eye strain.

More Tips for eyestrain!
1. Decrease the brightness of the screen (most people find less bright screens to be more comfortable)
2. Sit in a well lit room or have your desk area well lit with a desk lamp or a backlight.
(this will constrict your pupils and help improve your ability to stay focused without having to re-adjust your eye muscles as much)
3. Adjust the contrast settings to find what is comfortable for you
4. Increase the font size to make reading small text easier.
(hold down control/command buttons and adjust with either the plus/minus buttons or scroll with the mouse wheel)
5. Take frequent breaks! Try to look away from the computer screen at a distant object ever 10-20 minutes.

It feels like with all the technology we have to use everyday, there’s not enough basic education out there as to how to help your eyes and body with the constant use. I hope this video goes viral 🎉

One random tips that I didn’t know I need until I tried it. Enlarge your cursor size. It may look funny at the beginning but it significantly saves my eye energy. I can feel my eye muscles are less tight and cause less headache. I suggest everyone to try it for one or two days, if you don’t like it, you can always adjust the size back.

I really love this channel. I have chronic dry eye and, thanks to Dr Allen, I was able to better understand my condition and I have more educated discussions with my eye doctor. I use Cequa twice a day, warm Bruder compress at night with eyelid massage and some I-Drop ophthalmic drops and my condition is getting better every day now. Thanks again and keep up your excellent work.

I returned this Asus OLED laptop because of Eye strain and headache. Later I found that I'm sensitive to PWM of LED's.. It means this laptop has high brightness and high flickering problem.

I work in spreadsheets and emails all day long. I have found a few things help. Dark mode all the things, ambient lighting, AR blue filter glasses I did notice make my eyes feel less tired at the end of the work day.
I also tried manuka honey drops after your video, I got into the habit of using them before bed and while they do sting, I feel like it really helps to sooth and relax my eyes while I sleep.

They have been telling us for years about the 20/20/20 rule.

You did not mention using dark screen. i have found this so much easier to use instead of having a white background to your text and images, a black background with white text is so much better.

Just learned about VSS tonight searching up my symptoms that I have been experiencing since February of last year. The cause of it was coming into contact with non-ionizing radiation. Before the incident I've always had Ocular Migraines from being hit in the temple with a football as a kid. After the incident I developed this and a condition called EMF/EHS so I am sensitive 2 anything electrical and anything that emits radioactive waves. The VSS video helped me out tremendously now knowing that I'm not going blind lol. I experience almost all the symptoms except for maybe 2 of them. Glad to see that there is an explanation and there is being awareness raised about the condition and I hope there will be awareness raised about EMF/EHS as well. God Bless

Fantastic tips. I'm on a laptop all day so I'm always grateful to learn new things about taking care of my eyes. Thank you, Dr.

My tips:
-Put your desk in front of a window so you can look up a lot
-Sit as far back as possible from the screen at the edge of blur. If that's not enough use glasses with 1 diopter less

2:08 Yes, but it depends on the monitor's panel type. An IPS or OLED are fine at most viewing angles but a TN or VA will have contrast or color shift if you don't view them at an ideal angle.

Oled screen has PWM so if you have eye strain is not recommended to used. It is best to use a LCD/IPS/VA screen flicker free.

Dr. Allen, do you perform probing? That’s my next step and looking for a great doctor who is also not across the country!

I am recently experiencing dry eye symptoms, which are far more uncomfortable than I ever imagined! So glad to have found your channel and have limited my screen time and put night shift on my iPad all the time. My question is, should I also add a blue light filter screen like ocushield in addition to having the built in night shift on and brightness lowered? Or is the added shield redundant? Thank you so much for how much you have helped me already!

Change your monitor display profile to sRGB. Your eyes will thank you.
