I grew up in the 60s before the closer roll was there. What if Juan, Marichal, Sandy Koufax Gaylord Perry were closers? Oops many times they were because they pitch complete games. Has anyone done a simulation on Bob Gibson or Juan Maricel if they only had to pitch one inning when their team was ahead?
