Quick & Easy Crochet Bucket Hat Tutorial

Hello!! Here's a quick and easy tutorial on how to crochet a simple bucket hat! This pattern can be adjusted to fit any size and be easily customized. This is a perfect beginner's first project because it utilizes the most basic stitches and concepts.

Materials:
Scissors
Yarn Needle

This pattern does require a magic circle (MC), but you can substitute that by chaining 4 and slip stitching to the first chain. This hat uses mainly the double crochet (dc), sometimes in the back loop only (BLO) or front loop only (FLO), and slip stitches (sl st) to join each round.

The yarn that I used was size 4 acrylic (~150 yds), but many different yarn types are suitable for this pattern! I also used a 5 mm hook and a yarn needle.

Thanks for watching!

Hi everyone! I noticed many of you had the same questions, so you can find the full written pattern for free at vivcrochets.com/bucket-hat including extra notes and tips on the magic ring, sizing, and each part of the bucket hat!

Edit: I made slight edits because I just realized a couple of the instructions for Row 3 & 4 were a little unclear!

I ended up writing down instructions for myself for the hat, so I figured I would share them here! By no means are the instructions perfect nor am I experienced in pattern writing, but these are the notes I use every time I make a hat without the video lol. Thank you SO much for this tutorial, this is probably my fave version of the bucket hat right now!

*Each row starts with ch 2 and ends with a sl st in first DC, and first DC always goes in same st*

TOP OF HAT
Row 1; Make a magic ring & do 10 DC (10)
Row 2: DC inc in each st (20)
Row 3: 1 DC in same st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (30)
Row 4: 1 DC in first 2 st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (40)
Row 5: 1 DC in first 3 st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (50)
Row 6: 1 DC in first 4 st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (60)
Row 7: 1 DC in first 5 st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (70)
Row 8: 1 DC in first 6 st, 2 DC in next st *repeat* (80)

BODY ODY ODY
Row 9: BLO - 1 DC in every st (80)
Row 10 - 15: 1 DC in each st (80)
can adjust how many rows you do

BRIM
*End on inc round for brim so edge doesn't fold in*
Row 16: FLO - 1 DC in first 7 DC, 2 DC in next st (90)
Row 17: 1 DC in each st (90)
Row 18: 1 DC in first 8 st, 2 DC in next st (100)
Row 19: 1 DC in each st (100)
Row 20: 1 DC in first 9 st, 2 DC in next st (110)

I'm nowhere near an advanced crocheted I've been crocheting for close to 6 months now and this was the easiest tutorial ever to follow. It was paced well and explained in great detail. Much love❤

To be honest, I'm just winging this, if it looks like a hat by the end, I'll be happy

This taught me how to do a magic circle and a double crotchet stitch in one video and both were slow motion all the way through so it was really easy to follow directions! Thank you for taking the time to be patient with us ☺️

I have loved your video. I’m deaf and yet I could follow and understand what you were doing. Have the written pattern to go with the video and instruction was absolutely awesome. I’m so thrilled to have found you. Learning videos aren’t always easy to follow for a deaf person. You are terrific. I am a beginner and I learned so much in this video. Thank you, at 78 it is fun and challenging to learn a new craft.

I did the magic ring easier than I thought. I’m praying for all of you, I just have genetics from a crocheting/knitting bloodline. May crochet gods be with you all

the 109 dislikes are the ones who gave up after messing up the *tragic* ring 3 times.

This was absolutely genius. Crocheting into back and front loops only to create the fold in the hat was so smart. You explained it so well and it was super easy to follow. Thank you for this!

Y'all, if your circle is kinda going curvy as you go along, and you're confused why it's like that. It's because you might be making it too tight that's why it's curving:>have a control on your tension. You'll make it there just be patient<3

it took me two whole days (because i messed up in the middle and had to frog 5 whole rows) but i did it and it looks so so it was my first project as a beginner and so easy to follow along. thank you so much!

I have been crocheting for over 30 years, now. However, I always look for new patterns to try out. This is by far, the best tutorial for a Bucket Hat, that I have ever seen. Thank you!

The easiest tutorial so far. I've been trying to make a bucket hat for so long and I just couldn't do it because the other videos doesnt explain the step by step process, they just say the code word for it like for example the "backloops only" and then it's done. Here I also learned how to correctly slip stitch, the seamless type haha. Great tutorial thank you very muchhh ♡

I'm gonna edit this after I finish my bucket hat and tell you guys how it went ^_^

Edit: I'm sorry, I totally forgot about this. Yes I finished it! It is beautiful, I used the techniques she mentioned on the video. I just did some revisions like decreasing the diameter of the top part (the circle part on top) but it didn't go as how I imagined it would. My diameter is only 6 inch which I thought was enough for my head but turns out to be too small. It looked like a baby bucket hat on me because it fits my head like a bonnet. As of now I am restarting it (will add some inch on the top part) because I was not satisfied with the fitting. I'm planning on making a bee inspired design and hopefully would turn out good.
