I get why the show runner would say “kill me now” to that request, it makes his job harder, having to rework a whole character and the story and fit it in with everything else he already had planned.

It should be noted that this was the season *after* they already retconned the white violin into being a lesbian to match Ellen's own sexuality. So the writer probably wasn't *just* annoyed for being asked to retcon a character - but more so frustrated with the fact that this was the second season he was asked to rewrite the character... In a row. As a writer there was is no bigger frustration than someone asking you to rewrite something you've already written for no other reason than personal ego.

Why should the character be changed? It’s acting which is rarely reflective of your real life.

I would've honestly just recasted Vanya.

I don't think the guy had anything against trans people, but more likely just the frustration of dealing with spoiled Hollywood brats.

Actors asking for changes because they don't think the character would act a certain way is understandable but wanting your character to change because of you kinda says you don't know what acting is.

Page is a master of always making everything about Page. Page's ego is the size of Wyoming.

*Male? Female? Doesn't matter. Don't care. Either way, I wish Page would just go away.*

I hate when these people use this condition (or whatever it's called), to get what they want no matter what....
bordimariafachez
Steve Blackman was damned if he DID recast Page's roll in favor of a female actor for continuity purposes. Also, damned if he DIDN'T rewrite a whole script for the character to a transgendered male. Who was an established female character, in the comic. That's how a character gets retconned.
Ya' can't win with cancel culture, but cancel culture is not new. Before cancel culture it was called "shunned by society" same mob mentality, different name.

IT'S CALLED ACTING. THEY'RE PLAYING A ROLE AND PRETENDING TO BE SOMEONE THEY ARE NOT.

Ellen Page needs a physiatrist. Never, it's probably too late.

Yeah, if i had to rewrite not just an entire season, but the entire trajectory of the series i might want to die too.
timwhite
I feel like in the first 2 seasons there was nothing that indicated that the character of Vanya was struggling with gender identity, if anything it should have been done slowly in season 3 then it would’ve made sense, because Vanya coming out as Victor just seemed out of nowhere.
It’s like with the that’s so Raven spin off Raven’s home, how they wanted to make Raven gay because the actress is and the actress said that was a stupid reason. Not everything needs to be LGBTQ unnecessarily
ahlamm-
thats a fair response to somebody all of a sudden asking you and your whole crew to do an extra metric ton of work, reshoots, and rewrites just to appease some actor's ego - actors should *act* like somebody else after all.
robertonome
I have a lot of sympathy for the writers. Writing a trans story is a BIG deal in terms of the plot of your show. If you're required suddenly to do it, you have to rewrite the whole season and likely drop other things you wanted to do in order to accommodate it. Similar to if the studio tells you they hate a character or gives you a vague note like "more action". Nightmare.
jordanmcgrory
One of those people who has no personality outside of I'm trans and people hate me for it woe is me. It's no wonders they are so insufferable.

When you are acting. Your playing someone else... Right?. It's not reality TV... Maybe I'm just dumb.

She ruined Umbrella Academy. Actors should fit the role, not the other way around.

The only thing I remember about paige is that she made a stink about Ellie in "The Last of Us" looking like her
