Jesus christ. I kid you not...this is the first time I've ever seen DM live. Oddly, back in 1996, the first song I ever learned on guitar was "Crash." But I got into other music soon after. Now I'm 31 and am only just now deciding to look into DMB. My brother played me this song, this live version, yesterday...and it blew my mind. The first thing I thought was, "Dave absolutely smokes weed." This song is just so...cathartic and full of elation.. Love the chromatic bass during the chorus/bridge...and the overall hurried almost psychotic vibe of the whole song. I think I'm a new fan.... Better late than never.

I've been listening to this recording since it came out.... He trips over the lyrics just after 1:15 and I never noticed this until now. At least I think that's what's going on. DAMN 4 or 5 years later and it's still difficult to punch holes through his performance.

I'm not so sure about that... even with an improvisational wizard like Dave, it's incredibly difficult to create a four and a half minute song on the fly, or at least one with coherent lyrics and a distinct verse/chorus line. i have a feeling Dave had a very rough version of this song already practiced a few times, but this was the first live performance.

Dave is singing Hebrew divine names for God here. The first one is Eheieh; the second Adonai; I'm not sure what the third is, but it may be YHWH, which reportedly has a secret pronunciation.
