The VIX is elevated because of the SKEW, which indicates a lot of large traders buying far OTM put options. I don’t know if this has any predictive value, because the SKEW doesn’t break down whether it’s retail or institutional money doing the buying. As a trader of over 40 years, 10 of those as a CTA in the 1990s, my intuition tells me we are very close to a top in all asset classes. This topping process is very reminiscent of the GFC in early 2007. Real estate prices are already starting to crack, especially in the really hot markets like Florida and central Texas. In ‘07, equities continued to rocket higher while housing delinquencies were rising precipitously. Now it’s the consumer, the main engine of the economy, that’s leveraged to the hilt. All the rate cut did is put upward pressure on yields, especially in the middle and long end of the curve, which has consumers totally perplexed as everything from mortgages to car loans to credit card rates continue to stay stubbornly high.

Your projected cycles are currently perfectly-aligned with mine. The S&P 500 looks virtually identical to July 16th of this year, & similar movement & rate of movement has us hitting a low around the election. We shall see, but the patterns of structure & liquidity look VERY similar.

As always, very clear explanation. It would be nice to have some numbers about what is going to happen in the future, example: what's the probability that SPY will go up 5% or down 5% in one week, one month, three months.... and so on. I mean, it would be interesting adding some mathematics, with clear probability values, to those theoretical explanations. Thank you.
