In Avatar: The Last Airbender, the legends said the moon was the first Waterbender. The Water Tribe saw how it pushed and pulled the tides, and learned how to do it themselves.

What makes water the most dangerous element, in my opinion, is how adaptable it is. There are probably a million ways you could waterbend. The reason Katara progressed so quickly is because she embodies her element to its fullest; she doesn't rely on traditional bending. She's mastered it, but Katara didn't learn to bend from Paku initially. She learned by watching Aang and the earthbenders she saw around the world. So once she began to incorporate that into what she learned from Paku (and what she learned from the swamp benders), she became unstoppable. It's also why Korra is able to acclimate so easily to most situations and why Kya is able to hold her own despite being a healer; they learned from Katara

“Our ancestors learned how to do it themselves” (by observing the Moon) thats a much cooler version that receiving the bending from a lion turtle tbh

One of my favorite water bending scenes is when Korrra propelled herself hundreds of feet into the air while underwater

Sokka later started a poetry group back home. *A water tribe called quest.* They were known for their jazz influences.

"Legends say that the moon was the first water bender and that they learned it from pull and pushing the tides" so much better then getting the bending abilities from lion turtles when humans and spirits lived together

Waterbending just HITS different.

It was the only element I wanted growing up.

Water bending is the only bending where you can make turn someone against themselves. And you really don’t NEED a full moon. It just makes it easier

The fact that you only need regular water bending to take someone’s bending away and the only way to get it back is with energy bending. Which only avatars and lion turtles can do. That’s how powerful water bending is
